Favorite resource for lamps?

I'm looking for new bedside lamps. I have exhausted all my usual online resources -- PB, RH, Lighting Universe, Bellacor, Lamps Plus, Lighting Direct, JCP... not quite finding the one that says "Yes!" Have also visited my local Home Goods. Haven't checked Target yet. I am willing to spend up to $150/each to get The Right Lamp. Where do you shop?

What I'm looking for -- about 28-30" tall, in either black (easier to find but really not my first choice) because our headboard is black metal, or in a celadon or sage green or gray-blue ceramic or glass. Not too contemporary but not too froo-froo either. Transitional, I'd say.

I've bought lamps from Spiegel and LLBean online. Locally I like to search small artsy shops.

Jen, Poisondartfrog is running a swap on garden.org that starts January,17th. It's run at garden.org which is free to join if your interested. It's a swap where you pick what seeds you get back, I love it. When I saw your name, I thought you might like it if you were still seed trading. I don't know if there will be a New years swap this year, who was it that ran that one? I will ask f they plan on hosting it this year. If not, maybe I'll pick it up with a twist. :}

favorite landscape design resources

Your best resource will always be an experienced landscape design professional local to your area. If none available or you prefer this to be 100% DIY, you can develop a landscape plan on your own but that comes with a rather high learning curve. There are some texts tailored to homeowners that can be helpful and walk you through the process. Two that I recommend when I teach garden design are BHG's New Complete Guide to Landscaping and Creative Home Landscaping by Ortho Books (both are available through Amazon). They will take you step by step through site evaluation and analysis, how to measure and develop a base map/site plan, understanding and application of design principles and the all the elements involved in creating a functional and attractive master landscape plan. My strong suggestion is that if you go the textbook route, do not short cut any of the steps involved. They may seem tedious or unnecessary but the information and experience they impart is really essential to the best outcome. Both books have plant guides included that can help with plant selection. But they are very generalized, as the books are intended for a national readership and plants are very location related, so you may have to supplement this info with visits to better local garden centers or botanical gardens to see what works best in your location. And both texts will have basic construction how-to's for installing simple hardscapes, lighting and irrigation and construction of common outdoor structures,,,,,fences, decks, arbors and pergolas, etc.

Don't forget eBay. You can do an advanced search and enter your price range to help limit the listings.

Pier One, TJ Max, Marshalls... I used to spend more $$ on lamps than I am willing to now. I think lamps can be trendy (especially the shapes) and like to be able to change things up a little.Also, you can alter the shades by adding grosgrain ribbon strip around the bottom in the color of your choice.

The only lamps I have bought online are ebay. I like unique and have also had several lamps made. Could you do that? Have you seen a vase or anything else that would work for your base in the right color?

Overstock. I've bought a lamp and a small chandelier from them. Very happy with the price and the quality. Just be sure to read reviews.

HG, Target and believe it or not the JC Penney outlet store are my favorite lamp haunts.

For some reason the HG by me seems to get a lot of clearance merchandise (clearanced HG prices) and I've found multiple steals. Just this weekend picked up a pair up ceramic lamps with shades - $9 for both. Some mod-podge & scrapbooking paper & my daughter's playroom is going to have new lamps. :)

I've also bought some lamps from Overstock, but the quality of the item was no what I expected when I ordered it. They are ok for their purpose (guest room) but I would have been very disappointed if I had intended them for daily use.

Online etsy and vintage sources. Locally, antique stores and locally owned lamp stores. Most of mine have come from the last two sources. My local store makes them from things they buy and I have taken in everything from wooden candlesticks, architectural pieces and porcelain objects to brass paint sprayers and iron pieces. It's only limited by the imagination.
