One more marble question....

Is marble too hard and cold, for an island with stools?

I'm still debating about one level island or two...slightly raised for the stool area. It's a 6' x 3'6" island. The 2' closest to the perimeter cabinets would be great for marble (not even that concerned about the finish anymore) but what about the stool area?

Would butcher block be better? That's what I'm leaning towards using on the perimeter cabinets. I know the marble will be fine (with small prep sink) in the work area...but would appreciate your experiences with the seating area. Thanks in advance :)

I was picturing something like this, but maybe with the wood raised. This isn't a bad look, if the seam doesn't become a crumb magnet, but the raised area will screen my baking mess from the dining table...on the other side of the stools.
