My sister makes me happy, for sure. We are very close and I would do anything in the world for her. We always have a wonderful time when we're together. Unfortunately, she lives there in Newfoundland - feels like a trillion miles away and I miss her terribly.

Thank God for telephones - we talk on the phone almost daily.

I am the only girl. I have one brother. So I have no personal experience to judge the truth in that. But it sounds reasonable.

My mother comes from a family of 6 kids, 5 of them girls. They lost their father when they were still growing up (ages 5 to 16), and lost their mother 20 years ago this year (ages 29 to 40). They are very close, especially the sisters. They get so much support and joy from each other, I have no doubt their lives are happier because of each other.

I grew up with only one brother but I have a step sister.I am 4 years older than her.We didn't grow up together but it feels like we did.I love her dearly.We have the same father but not the same mother.We have just gotten really close in the last 15 years or so.We live 400 miles apart and I haven't seen her in 10 years but we talk on the phone almost every day.Thank goodness we both have AT&T cell phone service with unlimited long distance! When either of us are a little down (and when we aren't) we always end up laughing hysterically.Even though we don't share the same mother we have a lot of things in common.We both craft and are interested in a lot of the same kinds of crafts.Our families are first in our lives and our DH's are so much alike it's scary. I plan to visit her this summer for a couple of weeks.

I have a wonderful sister. She is the oldest but I am the bossiest. She always tells her kids and grandkids if they don't behave, she will have to call Aunt Carol. LOL

I have two sisters. Though I live 450 miles away, I feel close to both and speak with them on the phone frequently.

My sis is 12 years younger than me. Mom let me name her and sometimes I felt like she was my baby. She and I are very close . I had two boys then we had our girl. I have wished I could have had another girl so Colleen would have a sister. But there was no guaranty I would have had a girl. Dottie

When asked while growing up, "Don't you miss having a sister?" I always replied, "How can I miss something I never had?" So, no, I never wished I had a sister.

But now, having lost my Mom a year ago, I think I would like a sister. And for the first time, I am envious of those who have sisters.

I am a happy person, and I have 4 sisters, whom I love deeply. My youngest sister and I fought all the time growing up, and even now I couldn't live with her or we'd be at each other's throats. But, living 700 miles apart we get along great, even for days at a time when we are together. I'm very close to a couple of my sisters and not so close to the others but there are very strong ties between us all and we'd do almost anything for each other. I would for them, and I know they would for me. It's a very very good thing we have!

I'm a resilient and optimistic person with a sense of humor that's present most of the time, but I have always wished I had a sister. Growing up, I wanted a brother, too. But the older I get the more I feel the lack of a sister.

My two cousins, same age as I, have been the closest thing to sisters to me (one was Terry, whom we lost in September). Also my dear friend Lisa, who lives halfway across the country. She has numerous sisters of her own but always includes me in family emails.

Well, yeah, I used to really like having a sister until she decided to take me to court.... Greed does strange things to people. And it's entertartaining to see how people react when you beat them in court.

I'm like Alisande. Two cousins that were my age. We grew up like Sisters. But, both of them have little Sisters and they are really close.

I love all my sisters, but two of them are so da** serious it's not much fun being around them. We do not socialize. Mom and I even stopped going over for the holidays a few years ago because of the dogs jumping on you and barking, people yelling them to get down or yelling at someone to do something with them.

What I should have said was, the author of that article has not met my sisters. LOL

I always wanted a sister but I have 2 brothers instead. And while I love them dearly I think it's the rare brother who can fill the place of a sister. Men (my husband, 2 sons and brothers included) typically don't get excited when I tell them about my new recipe for pork chops, or about the next door neighbor who doesn't speak English but stopped by with a cake, or how I finally found an unscented hair product. Granted those are rather boring subjects but a sister or a good female friend would share those topics with a certain degree of interest. And even if I talk to my brother about cars, hunting, fishing or his children and wife- he still only has a few words to say about them.

I think women enjoy exchanging information while men just 'want the facts, ma'am.' I like Susan's comment. I think I would have been a good sister too.

I only have a brother. When I was little I think I wished for a sister, but I'm fine with not having one. I don't know that I would want my parents to love another female as much as they loved me. That's probably a strange comment to make. But it was fine with me that they loved my brother as much as they loved me, because he was a boy.

I should be delirious. I have 5 sisters and we all have a great time when we're together. Also have one very sweet, kind, handsome "little" brother.

I have a sister that is 22 years older than me. She has never liked me, and we have never had a close relationship.
She is a very miserable person, and always has been. I am a very happy person, and always have been. I don't think me being happy has a thing in the world to do with her. In fact, I'm certain of it.

I have four younger brothers, always wished for a sister.

My mom had two younger sisters, always wished for a brother.

I have three adult sons and three adult daughters. They are all good friends, have been all their lives. I am delighted about that.

I have 2 sisters that have always made my life so happy. I have 2 sons and a daughter. I feel sad that she can't experience having a sister. She is very attached to me, even as a teenager, so I feel blessed.

I have 3 sisters also and we get along so well....2 brothers too. I am the baby of the 6 of us. My oldest sister is 20 years older than me!

I had 7 sisters and 4 brothers.All i have left now is 5 sisters.All the brothers and 2 of the sisters have passed away.My sisters live 3000 miles away from me on the east coast ,but we talk on the phone at least once a week,sometimes more,and email each other all the time.Love them all and feelings are mutual.

I have 3 sisters (no brothers) and we all get along great (usually, LOL). I can't imagine my life without them. I see or talk to 2 of them almost every day, and we all work for the same agency. The other one lives in another city so we don't get to see her as much, but we all have a great time when we are together.

Yes, it greatly depends on the sister. My sister is very difficult and likes to stir things up. However, I get along great with all five of my brothers.

I have 4 sisters, no brothers. Having sisters used to make me happy. We're close in age but not in life anymore. They cause so much family dysfunction due to their drama, jealousy and disrespect, that I don't care to be around that. I remember when we had family get-togethers, I'd always have anxiety knowing I had to be around them. Sad thing is, I don't even miss them. We're a very broken family. No one talks to any one, though, I do get together with the youngest now and then. All of this pains my mother.

I sometimes wish I had had a sister, just to share the difficulties with Mom. My two brothers are 12 and 14 years younger than me, and we have very little in common. For Pete's sake, I was out of the house and married when they were in grade school!

Now I have a BF who is SO much like a sister, we laugh about it! Similar origins, though she grew up in a family with eight kids on a REAL farm; so many similar interests, so many similar opinions, so many similar reactions to situations. Sure, we disagree in some circumstances, but we agree to do just that and move on.

Not MY 2 sisters, both of 'em lying, thieving, manipulative egotists. But my 3 brothers are TERRIFIC! All of 'em are loving, caring, generous, would give a stranger the shirt off his back kinda guys. My brothers make me happier! They've always been there for me.

I do have two first cousins that are like sisters to me,one slightly older and one a bit younger.We do all the silly stuff that sisters do,take holidays...laugh at silly things until tears are streaming down our faces...trust each other,get along great and I don't know what I'd do without them.
