I tried joining curves some time ago, but the desk person took one look and me and said "No, you need to go to our other gym, BULGES."

Sigh....

Obviously I'm kidding. I'm a dude. They'd never let me in the door. ;-)

I hope you like it. Some don't think it's enough of a workout, but when I went, it was for me.

My MIL had her knee replaced a few years ago and her doc suggested exercising BEFORE the surgery to help her recover too.

Good luck to you. I know my sister sure likes it and I know of other woment that swear by Curves. I am at a traditional gym. I say do what you enjoy.

Hope you have better luck that these people. On the Exercise and Nutrition forum there is a posting called RE: Curves and there are really sad situations. At least check it out. Up in Canada there is a big law suit pending--Toronto area.

I went regularly for a year. It's a nice workout. nice people. I left because I wanted to do something else--walk or take an exercise class, cannot remember what it was. "My" Curves closed a year or so ago.

I love Curves. Try to go 3 times a week. Joined last June and have lost 28 lbs and 22 inches. It saved my life. Could hardly get up and down, could not breathe good and was just miserable. Had a knee replacement about 11 years ago and my leg has always been so stiff from not exercising properly.

Went to my asthma doctor, got a wonderful report. Progress in my lung pressures. Had a bone density test and had improved there which was great news as I have been so against taking all that scary medicine.

I have more energy and just feel better. Have lost 2 pant sizes. Have done a lot of hard gardening this spring and take care of our sweet little 3 year old GGS 3 afternoons a week.

Thought maybe I was too old at 72, but see ladies there that are in their eighties working up a storm. I have never been sore after a workout, but know I have worked every muscle in my body.

Marie: I'd forgotten that part of my Curves experience. I didn't 'lose' any money but came close to it. Your cancellation must be in writing and before a certain deadline, etc, or they will continue to take money from your acct. So, luckygardnr, read your contract carefully.

A new gym opened up just up the road from my house. I went there first to check it out. I was sooooo intimidated by all those huge machines. I knew I'd be wasting my money joining, because I wasn't comfortable going there.

However, when I walked into Curves, I felt right at home. No skinny people working out around me, just women like myself. Everyone is very friendly too, and hopefully I'll make new friends too. We've lived in Stratford for 11 months now, and we hardly know anyone. The neighbors are nice but we don't socialize too much with them. Our interests are so different.

Anyway, Curves is what I'm doing now, and I really hope I can stay committed to it.

... I thought your curves were sort of nice as they were.

But, then - I haven't seen you for a couple of years ... or so.

Hey Lucky, I thought you looked great when we met....has it been that long already??

Last week on Secret Millionaire, the owners/founders of Curves were featured. They have a ton of money, and did give a nice chunk away.

I don't own a multi-channel fitness place.

Don't have a ton o' money.

Manage to give some away, on occasion - but haven't been on TV doing it.

We're having a federal election soon ... and some of those birds got some of it. Hope the current crowd having operated a minority gov't. don't get in.

That, plus charitable contributions helped me pay no federal income tax last year, though ... and looks like the same game, this year.

P.S. Google ad is promoting hand dryers (something about going green) ... what that has to do with this topic is more than I can explain.

Joining is the easy part, you have to make the commitment to actually go. Here in my area it seems more like a social gathering than exercise class. Good Luck and stay with it.
