I love Alison's kitchen. It's one of my favs.

Homeagain - did you find any nice rustic farmhouse pics you could share? I am designing in that vein too. Disagree with linked site above that paint should be orange. I was thinking green. Did you see Sherwin Williams color chart for refined rustic?

I remember seeing that too awhile back! I wondered the same thing but then lost that site and couldn't remember where I had seen it.

It's definitely her island. The same accessories and flowers from the AtticMag article are sitting on it. They've cut the island out and shopped it into another room with their cheesy picture behind it. They also cloned out the outlet on the near side of the island and darkened the top.

That is crazy! I never knew online retailers did stuff like that.

They had the nerve to put a copyright on Allison's photo which they obviously had photoshopped!

I found several sites using a photo of my screened porch with old iron bed in my boathouse, including a site called Homewa and someone's blog.

I don't know much about these things, but if you go to google and search images, then click on the little camera icon in the search bar and then paste a direct link to a photo you think may have been copied, you will get a list of sites using the photo.

Allison, keep us posted.

Where, where, where is this Alison/Allison's island that so many know about? I want to see it so I can be properly outraged.

Several colleagues and I worked hard to write proposals to observe Saturn with the Hubble Space Telescope. After several years, a Hubble Heritage montage was made of various images of Saturn taken at different ring opening angles. What an honor!

I really wish I had pictures of this but thankfully it has gone away.

After all, Hubble Heritage images supposedly "belong" to anyone and everyone....

We have seen pictures I took of our dog when she was a puppy being used to sell other puppies and a couple of years later someone emailed me to tell me they had found a (really funny) pic I had taken of her being used on check book covers on eBay.
I had a look and sure enough!

I didn't care much about the eBay covers other than to think that this dog should probably be earning a living modeling, lol, but the puppy for sale picture was annoying. I wonder what the actual puppy looked like and how upset its new owners would be when it arrived and wasn't the puppy in the picture!

I'm sure she will rightly be annoyed about the use of her island (assuming they don't have permission), but I can't help see it as a compliment to her that a kitchen designer would rather use her kitchen than their own!
Of course not good at all for prospective customers who think it's an example of their work! : (

Alison- I had someone steal a picture from a Craig's list and eBay.
I checked with an acquaintance who is a patent/copyright lawyer and not only is it fraud and misrepresentation, it is a copyright violation.
So, I sent a cease and desist message to the creep and he apologized and did remove it - although only CL initially - then I discovered the eBay listing again and went ballistic. He did remove it also.
I did sell the item - but did put a disclaimer that this was the actual lens in the picture and that another add used my picture.

Someone in BAH asked me was a picture he was sent my hutch - it was.. the one with the double plate rack with copper piping. :-/ At least they were only emailing it out as an example and not trying to pass it off as one of their own.

So glad we did not put a wall between our kitchen and great room. Considered it, but the architect was heard screaming all the way from Tulsa. Although I don't like the solid wall, I would consider a wall of windows - if done correctly.

Anna, they did darken the counter. I guess antique pine isn't "rustic" enough for them. lol I do despise the outlets (code required them) and we rarely use, but they do come in handy when a turkey needs to be carved.

Honestly, that website looks like they showcase/sell the mass marketed "rustic," "Italian" etc items I don't buy... which is sort of funny. ;D

Oh, geez... They have it featured again as a "French Country kitchen." My kitchen was built in ENGLAND and the island is based on one by Chalon.

NPR just did a story on the copywrite infringement issues with Pinterest. I don't spend time on the site, but I guess you can pin other's photos to your Pinterest wall. If you don't credit the correct owner, it's a legal problem. Most casual users don't even know they are breaking the law.

I keep thinking about this every time I post a picture online!

Why the fuss? You should be flattered that a company thinks that much of what you've done.

Because they took a picture taken (therefore owned) by me, Photoshopped (looks awful, imo) and are using it on their site to sell their wares - none of which I would personally buy myself - all without my permission. It's not even a good picture, which makes me wonder how long it has been on their website. It was the first group I ever put on GW/BAH after moving in over 6 years ago.

Pinterest sent around a new policy last week. I haven't read it in full. Any picture not marked by the person leads directly to the website it was pinned from, so it's not like you can't go directly to the website it came from and/or never know where it was from.

This website doesn't even credit GW or the owner(s).

Honestly, every single one of their images looks like a poor photoshop job to me. As if they have no actual pictures of their wares in any real kitchen.

Is your kitchen still on there? The one I thought it was seems to be gone now. (But maybe the one I thought was yours wasn't.)

Hoboken's puppy story reminds me of a time when I misrepresented someone else's pet picture as my pet. My cat, Toes, went missing, and I realized that I didn't have any photos of him at all. So I went online to search for photos of orange cats, and found on that looked enough like him to pass on a "Missing Cat" poster. Definitely a copyright violation, but the posters were only up for a short time and it was for a good cause.

I use other people's pics all the time for the Design Around This thread. I always try to cite where I got the picture, but I'm sure that isn't always the proper owner.

Both pictures are gone, but they didn't respond to my emails at all - contacted them through the form on their website twice since I found the second picture after I had already sent the first one. At least they took them down, but an apology would have been nice. lol

I'm a born and raised Southern gal - I wasn't ugly, just to the point.

DH was talking and I forgot to say, one of the pictures (one with the yellow oil container and basket of apples) is all over Pinterest. :-/ One lady said she "like the vanity." Either she thinks it's a bathroom or has never heard of an island. lol

I ffind this happens all the time. The funniest one that happened to me was when I received color literature from a copper sink company with a photo of one of my sinks in it. When I called to ask about it, they said it was not my photo and how could I be sure it was my photo. I told them I used that sink every day, it is in my kitchen. They promptly took the photo out of their literature. I still laugh when i think about it. with photos being everywhere online, in a free for all world, it is difficult to keep photos from going places where they are not wanted. I suppose we could all watermark our photos, but what a hassle. I am glad they took your photo down, especially because they photoshopped it.

That's funny about your sink. Who knows, the company that put together their literature could have done it and they didn't know until you called them.

Watermarks can be removed. I've never tried but hear it's easy to do if you know how.

I did sign the email "(My Name), Shopping Editor, Atticmag" so they at least would think I knew what I was talking about. ;D It is amazing to see/read/find pictures people use on their websites and/or blogs without credit given to the source. AM always gives credit.

Update for anyone interested. I received an email today. Seems they pay customers who send in photographs of "their" houses that include items purchased from the website. $20 gift certificates. So that person got $20 or $40 dollar's worth. She said it's only happened twice (them being contacted about improper photo) in 17 years. I find that hard to believe. Many pictures on the website look "touched up" to me.

My question to her was the pictures were obviously Photoshopped. How could whoever NOT notice? ??? I asked if she needed my address since my house had been used on their website. ;D She responded by asking if I had purchased from them before. Um, no.. but thanks. :-/
