No but I think I saw something similar to this in the finished kitchens blog? It sounds Georgous. I have white cabinets and a black distressed island-but Venetion Gold counter tops.

Give me a week or 10 days and I'll post some pix. I have 'buttercream' cabinets and I'm getting calcatta gold marble. I've included a link of just the cabinets without any tops -- they are definitely creamy not white.

I was concerned about the same possibility of clashing. I'm just holding my breath. I think any marked difference will be offset by the fact that you're rarely looking at them close to eachother, as strange as that sounds.

Amberley, I'm of no use to you because my cabinetry is white (a clear, true white) and we'll be getting Calacatta Xtra (seriously, that's its name) countertops. I've no doubt whatsoever that Calacatta will look beautiful with creamy cabs. I'm not sure I'd say the same for Carrara, however .... I think the gold in Calacatta works beautifully with a range of whites / off-whites.

I was looking at that marble also- I just haven't seen it online yet. I think it may be the perfect bridge between the creams and the whites. Also, I have a very deep gold/yellow in my living room/hallway/stairwell that this kit needs to flow with (BM Concord Ivory double tint). I am a color nut (with the exception of kitchen cabs it seems!) My kit now is currently the Martha Stewart Strawberry Pot Blue and my dining room is Ralph Lauren Regal Red (no longer made- but I love it so much I have had it in three dining rooms!)

We are knocking down the wall btwn the kit and d/r, so a little color reorganizing has to occur. I need to get all these whites and neutrals right bcs they will be going with some really strong color accents. I am even thinking about painting the baking section (on the short end of the island) in the aqua/strawberry pot color, and doing the counter stools in the red....

So many decisions!

Just happened to see your post, and wanted to let you know that I have a soapstone perimeter with creamy white cabinets and a black island with a statuary marble counter. My soapstone is a not a "traditional" one, and I have not oiled it yet. My kitchen has been in use for about a year now, and I still love the look. You can look at pictures of it in the finished kitchens blog under rotag. I too worried about the white finishes clashing, especially with my farmhouse sink in the island, but it worked out fine.

Don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I have off white perimeter cabs with soapstone and cherry cabs with marble on my island. I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

coleen- beautiful! Love all the natural light with that bank of windows! What kind of marble do you have? Your cabs look like what I am getting IKEA Tidaholm painted white/off-white/cream.

rmkitcehn- I have been reading your marble saga, and am bowled over by the price tag. I am sure that I am going to pick the most expensive piece of white marble out there....and then I woun't be able to get it because of budget....On the bright side, I only need about 20 sf for my island (the eating part will be wood).

Your kitchen is just lovely! Do you find it hard to get into the glass cabinet in the corner? I'm considering doing the same thing with a corner.

Here is a pic of my cream cabs with calacutta marble. The marble is calacutta vagli. It has some creamy spots in it that tie it in with the cabinets.

Thanks - the marble is carrarra and the cabinets are Omega/Dynasty. FWIW, the carrarra is not more than the soapstone (would have been, though if I had gone with the gorgeous statuary - but I had to cut it off at some point!). I don't think they had trouble putting in the corner cabinet (but my GC would never have complained to me about that!). I will say that I have some trouble with the soapstone moving a bit. The fabricator blames it on that cabinet - I have had to have them come back and "re-epoxy" my seam there. He says it's because it's so heavy. WHo knows. I don't have that issue with my other seam.

What I mean is . . . is it hard for YOU to get into the cabinet that is in the corner? When you open the door(s) can you easily reach in? Do you use that cabinet daily?

I am putting in honed statuary in my bath, and have a cabinet I painted BM White Dove. The floors are honed mosaic statuary as well. I can get you a photo of that if you can wait a few weeks. So far it looks yummy.

Oh, sorry, Judy! No, I don't find it difficult at all! We use it for our glasses (everyday, wine, etc) and so I'm constantly in it. It's not awkward at all.

Coleen, LOVE IT ALL! I am currently looking at Dynast/Omega. Are you happy with the cabinets? (Actually I just sent your photo to my Dynasty designer saying "that's the door style I want!") Do you think your fabricator's comment about the soapstone's moving is a reflection on cabinet quality or anything?

I am also strongly considering soapstone and marble - funny how similar tastes run to everything - I love everything you chose, backsplash, etc. Also, is your island a different door style? Do you mind me asking what your door styles are called? It's all beautiful. And what is your range? Hope you don't mind all the questions. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Coleen . . . I'm so glad that that cabinet is easy to use. I've gone into a few kitchen showrooms trying to find a cabinet like that in the corner to check the functionability of it, and haven't been able to see one in person. So I appreciate the help.

Just a couple more questions if you don't mind.

How wide is that cabinet?

Does the door on the left swing all the way around so that it can actually bonk the cabinet next to it?

Stiles and Coleen your cabinets look white to me in the photos. I'm surprised to hear that they are off white. Both beautiful!

katmandu - No I don't think it has anything to do with the cabinet quality - he said it was a heavy slab with heavy cabinetry, so who knows. The perimeter cabs are Maple Oyster finish in Williamsburg. The island is Cherry Nutmeg antiques finish in Brookside Square. I love the Brookside Square but if I were doing it again, I would probably not get the Williamsburg. The space for hardware is rather small - not an issue on the kitchen cabinets but it was for the desk which ahs narrow drawers. Oh, and the range is a Capital.

judy - the cabinet is 28 " wide. The door stops before it "bonks" the other door. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Coleen, Do you mean the space for the front-mounted hardward you use to open the drawer?? (what are they call - not pulls but ... ?) (YOu don't mean hinge hardware, ??) How does that affect things?

Now, down to my post. Colleen3... you posted a picture of your lovely kitchen. It's gorgeous! I'm about to begin a major remodel: kitchen, 2 baths, laundry room, DR, MBR--moving a stair case and chimney, too! Very big and not a little bit scary.

katmandu - just the space for the pulls. I just had to get very narrow ones for the desk - whch were not the ones I would have chosen otherwise, but frankly, I don't even think about it now! It's NOT the hinges!

Just about every decision in made in our remodel was with the help of the people here. Yes, the refrigerator is where I was standing when I took the pic. The layout is definitely working for me. Your house is gorgeous!! Is this new or an old house reno? Are you working on the entire house? It is absolutely stunning!!

The calacatta d'oro is so beautiful. I haven't yet seen any of the white marbles in person except Cararra, which I don't think I want (to much gray). I am even hoping that I might be able to get a scrap- I only need the marble for my baking section of the island, which will be 49"x42". I have been a bit preoccupied here lately, and have had to put kitchen planning on hold because of massive plumbing issues in my fairly new basement bathroom. See the thread, "HELP! I can't plan the kit bcs I have sewer gas in bsmt bath!".

I can't wait to see more pics of your remodel- I am SO envious!!

Thank you or your kind words. It is an old-house renovation/addition. We bumped out the back for the kitchen, family room, mudroom and butler pantry. The upstairs is over the new garage and we added closets, bedroom and baths upstairs there. We really tried to make it consistent with an old house and have a fair share of crooked hallways, which I find charming, due to funky walls and funny chimneys.
Once a few more things are done and before the boxes arrive I'll post a more pictures.

I love love love the marble and hope you find a way to make it work. I too was put off by the 'grayness' in carrara -- but the calacatta d'oro is just like creamy ice cream colored and the veining doesn't 'bleed' or color the surrounding areas like carrara does.

Sewer gas is horrid --during the renovation we found out that our toilet hadn't been vented. It explained a whole lot of issues we'd had with it -- sewer gas being one of them. Good luck with that mess.

Have you tried calling fabricators directly? We had to buy slabs and couldn't cut off a chunk so maybe a fabricator would have a scrap from a previous job that you could use for your baking area. I managed to get enough 'left-over' from the kitchen/bath/butler pantry to use for the laundry room so there is hope.

I love old houses-my college degree is in historic preservation. My house is relatively young, 1942, but it has never really been updated until we bought it. I wish we had the option of bumping out the back or the side, but we are in a rowhouse (Baltimore term for townhouse), and have an alley on one side and a postage stamp size backyard. It is not quite "city" living, but certainly not the suburbs either. Where sre you?

I haven't gotten to calling stone yards yet- wanted to get some other things taken care of first, but now this bathroom issue. I have another plumber coming today, and one tomorrow, so hopefully by the end of the week I will have a good idea what I am doing.

Do you have any pictures of your slab before it was cut? Or, do you have any pics that are closer to the marble to see the veining?

I think your description of Carrara is right about the gray "bleeding" into the white. That is exactly what I don't care for.

I'm in McLean -- not so far from Balto. I'll ask my fabricator if they had any remnants that would work for you.

I don't have pix of the slabs, forgot my camera that day. I will try to take some closeups with better lighting so you can see the veins a bit clearer.

Universal Marble and Granite in Baltimore (Linthicum area) has a HUGE selection of calacatta d'oro marble. Unfortunately, they aren't keen on letting customers choose specific slabs, which is an issue for me. However, if you want to get a good look at probably 40+ slabs I'd head there. HTH!
