I buy mine at TJMaxx and HomeGoods. Usually, you will find a good selection in the Fall, but I noticed that my local HomeGoods had a huge group of the smaller rugs today....the 3x6, 4x6 and runners. They also have some really nice room rugs, but I have all I need and didn't look.

I have used the no stick liners but don't buy rugs with the rubber backing. It can come off on the wood floor. My rugs are heavy and pretty much stay in place on their own.

I stay away from bathroom mats that are rubber backed because I have had a problem with the rubber sticking to the floor, but I have a small rubber backed mat in front of my refrigerator (on my wood floor) and have had it for 5 years without any problems. It hasn't harmed the floor at all. Also I am sure it gets damp since some people that live in my house drip water and ice in that spot from the ice dispenser.

I have a rug in my den and I noticed that underneath it in the high traffic spot, it has taken the finish off the wood floor. It is not rubber backed. I should have used a pad under it, but I didn't. I will just always have a rug there.

I have some nice no-slip/rubber backed rugs and runners from Costco. They haven't left any marks, after 2 yrs.

Should rugs be moved occasionally to avoid sun exposure? And removed in summertime?

Not sure where you are, but there is a store called Rug and Home in Gaffney, SC that has the largest selection of rugs at the best prices I've ever found. They do have expensive ones to, but alot that aren't. They have a great website too. http://www.rugandhome.com/Default.aspx

I own a custom rug manufacturing business and can tell you that rubber back rugs are not good on hardwood floors if there is any chance the rug may get damp or wet. The rubber & moisture will ruin the hardwood floor. For instance never put rubber backed rug in a hardwood entry because people come in with wet feet when it rains or snows. Never put it in a kitchen or dining room with hardwoods if there is any chance of moisture or in a bathroom if there is hardwood in a bathroom. We always tell our clients this and if they still want it they have to sign something stating that they are aware that it could ruin their hardwood floors & that we are not responsible if it does. Ideamom, good advice. My rugs never get wet except for the rare occasion of a glass spill. Then I pick the rug up until it's completely dry.

I'm also considering smaller area rugs that can be machine washed. They may not be as attractive but much more convenient for cleaning.
