done colonoscopy

Just came home from hospital . It was a peice of cake. Doc found one tiny poyp so i have to do it again in 3 yrs.

They told me to eat light today so is a bowl of soup with chicken in it light or not...

Oh, good! Glad to hear it went well. Nobody told me to eat lightly afterwards so I ate heavily. :-)

(Actually, I ordered a Fuji Apple Chicken Salad at Panera but took home half of it.)

Good news...and thank you for sharing it...so many people need to get this test done and one sour report could stop many from doing it...

I am doing prep today for a colonoscopy tomorrow. Doing the split dose of Prepopik. I had the first 5 ounces around noon. I have the orange flavor - tastes like AirBorne, fizzy and pleasant. Followed by clear liquids of my choice. I had water, mint tea, coconut water, chicken broth. Took second dose around 6pm. More clear liquids. The first dose took 2 hours to work. From that point on, every time I drank liquids I'd have to visit the bathroom. I think the first dose cleared me out completely. The second dose has had no effect so far, even after drinking 40 ounces of clear liquids. I've had no nausea or side effects with either dose. Getting ready for bed now. I expect to be able to sleep normally. The procedure is at noon tomorrow. I can recommend this prep.

I had my second colonscopy on Wed. Piece of cake. The day before is not fun, but worth it since the test is so valuable. Colon cancer is called the "unseen" cancer. My mother's was growing for 7 years before she knew....and of course by then it was too late. A colonscopy is a "must have" test.

Fit and FOBT have significant amounts of false negative reporting especially in right sided, i.e. The cecum area of the colon. Also sigmoidoscopy can not find proximal polyps either. The reason countries use these methods is that they are cost effective but not as effective in preventing and finding tumours. My DH had a negative FIT two weeks before his colonoscopy that found his cancer. The cost benefit out ways the health benefit in many societies but my DH and many with right sided proximal cancers die because of the use of only FIT, FOBT and sigmoidoscopy. In source poor areas the 3 false negative FIT out of 1000, i.e. the amount of cancers that go undiagnosed until in advanced stages, outweigh the benefits of using colposcopy. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4143449/#!po=8.33333

I don't understand this at all, and frankly would refuse to help out my neighbors if our hospital had this stupid policy. What if you come by taxi? Does the cab driver have to stay? it makes no sense at all, and I would not do it. I can understand if there's a special reason for the colonoscopy and it's an immediate family member to be there in case it's bad news, but for a routine test? Do these hospitals make you wait if you drive someone for x-rays or an emg or a cat scan? This is nuts. ETA For my first MRI they told me to take a valium beforehand and have someone drive me, but he sure as heck didn't have to wait around.

Happy for your good results Clairdo. I agree with Ruthie, it's something everyone needs to get done and your admitting what an easy time you had of it will surely prompt more to have it done. They have always told me to eat whatever I wanted after I got home, sobered up and was hungry. :) I'm sure your chicken soup would go down just fine.

I think your soup will be fine.Doc told me to eat whatever i wanted,so DH stopped at a burger joint and got me a burger,and a shake.

I don't post here much but I just wanted to say that I am having a colonoscopy next Tuesday--May 6. I know I need it--I think of it as a necessary evil and knowing that others didn't find it to be too terrible is helping me a lot. Thanks for the good stories. I am also having an EGD. I have had lots of those so I am not too worried about that one though. Wish me luck!!! Sheila
