I think it's pretty but I wouldn't go wild over it. I wouldn't pay over two hundred dollars for it. I say if you like it, buy it.

Only that the current owner has owned it for over 30 years. I enlarged the pics he sent me and can see that it is hand carved, and slightly different on the left side from the right, which I like. I wish I could get close to its actual age, but that's not going to happen.

Oooohhhh!!!!! I luv it! I've got no idea what my upper $ limit might be, especially if I had a particular place I'd like to put it. I always love a bargain, but have been known to overpay if it's something that will haunt me forever if I don't just get it, LOL!

I especially like that each side is slightly different :)

OH MY!!!! Well, personally, I would pay anywhere up to $250.00 for that. It is absolutely exquisite. The shape, color and condition look to be near perfect!
If you love it, GET IT. If not, let me know and I will get it!!!!

My thoughts are...I love it!!! If it goes with your home and decor BUY IT! It's a little too fancy for the lines in my home but otherwise I would offer to buy it if you don't:-)

This is the kind of mirror you can't find anymore, or if you do, it costs $900.

Hi my3. Love the mirror and have one very similar in size and style. Mine came from an antique/consignment shop where I got it for just under $100...a nice deal, I thought. Like yours( I think?) the glass is not beveled. The glass looks new, also like mine. Maybe it's just me, but I like my mirrors to have some patina on the glass and prefer them beveled. Go for it if you feel it's reasonable and you love it!

I could see you being able to make that piece look fabulous. You have such a flair.

my3dogs....here is a picture of my absolute favorite mirror in my home. It is similar to the gorgeous one you are looking at. Sorry, but the Christmas pic is the only one I have on Photobucket. Yours is more ornate, but the style seems to be similar. Can't wait to see what you do to it!!!!!

I wish I could see the whole mirror. Ii would like to see what the proportion is of the top design to the overall mirror. From the back, it seems like it might feel top heavy.

I have his first photo of it, but it isn't all that clear. I personally think the proportions are fine, where the top is quite an 'airy' design.

Thanks for the new pix. I agree that the proportion is probably fine. There is something about it that isn't floating my boat - maybe the hard angles of the mirror compared to all the curves and airiness of the top?

But the important thing is that YOU like it, and it works for you in your lovely home.

I would pay upwards of $300...maybe more. Quality mirrors are hard to find and I love the carvings near the bottom of the frame.

If the mirror was ever replaced on it they did a great job! You can still see the aging of the paper on the back and the wire marks.

Knowing your finds, I'm sure it's being offered at a great price!

It's fabulous!!....I am disturbed that you might "do something with it"...Please don't wreck a lovely mirror by painting it or adding gilt or somethingl.
It's a very very nice piece....worth well more than $500.
Check out the design studios for a hand carved mirror with that sort of detail and see what they are asking....

I have searched for quite a while to find something similar online, and this is the closest that I could find, at the link below. It's slightly smaller than the one I have shown above, and older, but the overall frame and shape are of similar style and proportions.

Here are a couple photos of a mirror that we have that looks a little similar to yours. The back of this ours looks very similar to yours..This one belonged to my husbands grandmother. My husband is 60, so it must be pretty old....

eager, Yours is stunning! I know that my aunt has a convex round mirror with an eagle on top that I recall being fascinated by as a child, but my guess is that hers is Syroco 'wood'. No other pretty things to be handed down, so I have to get them from CL and eBay.

The owner is asking $225 for the mirror above, but has indicated that he'd entertain a lower offer, so we'll see....It's really large, so I need to make a template of it and see where it would fit, but I already know it's too tall for over the mantle - bummer. The dining room is where I am thinking, at the moment, but we'll see if it'll fit and we can agree on a price.

LOVE THAT MIRROR! I would pay no more than 200 for it. I'm always looking for a bargain even though it could sell for more. It's something I would definetly want.

I bought it a few weeks ago for $125! My house has been a bit crazy the past few weeks with work being done, and it laid on the DR table for a while. It's safely hanging on the wall in there now, in a home that may be temporary, but it's safely on a wall!

3dogs, it's gorgeous and yes, I *would* pay up to $250 each. Five years ago I purchased two very similar oval mirrors in NC for $300(pair), and knew that was a good deal~they were hand-carved also. I have them hanging above the vanities in my MB.

Faux 'hand carved' mirrors are a dime a dozen, but the real deal are not seen as frequently and cost buku bucks. ;o)

Thanks, all! I wondered if it should be on a solid background to show the detail of the mirror better, but the only available space I had on the first floor was in the DR.

You may not be able to tell, but that is a short angled wall in one corner of the DR, and the mirror fit it perfectly. It's beautifully made and VERY heavy.

Were you talking temporary home for the mirror? For some reason I took it as a hint that you were moving!

Mirrors like that were reproduced in Italy by the mega loads back in the 70's. I would probably pay $100 considering I bought my wood oval gold leaf back in the late 60's for $150. Search a little more. Mirrors are all over the place.

Lovely mirror, M3Ds, and a great price, too! You do discover the most wonderful finds. Big congrats! BTW, is that the original finish on it? I think it would be stunning stained a darker color against your wallpaper, or painted black. But, that would probably ruin it's value . . . or would it?

That is the original finish on it, Lynn. I don't have any black in the DR, so think I'll leave it as it is. I fear that paint may obscure the carving, and I do like the variations in the finish now.

Ajsmama, No, I'm NOT moving! What I meant was the mirror may not stay on that wall or in that room, but that is where it'll be for a while. :-)

The mirror is already purchased, and after looking literally for weeks online, I wasn't able to find a single one like it, other than the older one shown in the link I placed above in an earlier post, which sold for $1200. Those that were made by the 'mega loads' must still be with their original owners, since I wasn't able to find another like this one. If you know if a site with one like this, I'd love to see it, if you can provide a link.
