I was friends with him for eight years. Strictly platonic, even shared a bed twice without anything happening. I really loved him. We are 43 years old. His story: When we met he had three girls, 4, 5 and 6 with two women. He carried a lot of guilt surrounding that situation. From day one, I tried to encourage him to do the right thing and marry one of them, to set a good example for his daughters. It seems he could not choose for fear of hurting both women and children. He was and remains fully devoted to his daughters. Because we were so close, he shared a lot. As the years passed, it seemed clear that he was not involved with either of the women. There was no reason to lie. We remained close friends. Fast forward to October 2010. He kissed me one night after dropping me off. It was really awkward at first, but I thought to myself wow, this is my best friend, i already love him, maybe this could work. We ended up sleeping together eventually, which was really tearing me up. I'm a Sunday School teacher and felt like a hypocrite. 7 months later we had an accident and I got pregnant. The morning after pill failed me. He wanted me to have an abortion. I just couldnt. My church members supported me and loved on me despite my obvious mistakes. He became a stranger, a monster, a beast. He referred to the baby as it, reminded me that I was nothing but a "jump off", said that the moms of his daughters were both "better and smarter" than me and said I was a "sad b....h" who just wanted to be a part of his "fold" among many other things. He did come by once when I was 4 months to say how sorry he was, kiss my tummy etc., but most of the above mentioned nasties came subsequent to that visit.
Other than that visit, the only other time I saw him was when my dad died and he came to my parents home and stayed all night sitting at the table putting together a slideshow.
My son was born on Valentines Day and he has never come to see him. He would call weekly to ask how he was doing until I got fed up because it just didnt make sense. Then when he was supposed to come last week something happened with his car. (Financially he's in a rotten place, lost job, foreclosed home, realtor in bad market etc.) He even helped me create a federal resume after my son was born. The other night while talking about some crap on the phone I felt sick in my stomach and hung up. I just felt like an idiot for indulging him in convo when he still had not come to see his son. Mind you I have moved and we now live under ten minutes from each other. I told him I just could not carry on in this bizarre manner and I was going to proceed with informing his parents. I took a letter to their home (craziest thing is that on my way there I looked to my left and who was in the car next to me but him), as I sat in front of their home out came the mother to check her mail, I handed her the letter and photo, she said who is this, I said my son, she said who's the baby daddy, yes I know, couldnt imagine my 70 year old mom asking someone that, but based on his behavior which I never ever saw anything like it in all the years I knew him, no big surprise there. I told her there was a note in the envelope. I have not heard from them yet. The note was very diplomatic, just asking if theyd like to have anything to do with him they could reach out. They have nine granddaughters and this would be their only grandson. I said nothing negative about her son. I have not filed for child support. I know his current situation is not good and I had asked him to contribute half the daycare and he said he would. I have a beautiful amazing little boy with the calmest spirit ever. But there are times I feel well very very sad. I also have three girls from a previous marriage. I am very open with them, but what I hate most about his actions is that he shamed me in front of my girl children. And he knew them and they knew him well. Im not the first person in my family to have a child out of wedlock but to have someone walk away the way he has, thats never happened. Anyway Kitchen Table, Sorry this is so long, its the first time I have written about it, and I am so ashamed that I cant talk to too many about it.I used to come here about ten years ago...
