sarahw_tx....actually it the other way around, the one sweating is for the downstairs and the other is upstairs. I did get up in the attic this morning and noticed the sweating is pretty non-existent (just a little moisture). I am beginning to think that the humidity and heat of the day caused a lot of it, but overnight it cooled down in the attic therefore changing the "chemistry" up there. We shall see today. I think I will add some insulation today and see how it goes. If anyone has any other thoughts please keep 'em coming. Thanks.

If you know the exact location of the pin hole you can cheaply & easily make a permanent repair yourself and save the cost of a Plumbers service call. That appears to be a 1/2" copper pipe. Before you start, get a 1/2" copper pipe compression union. (A 5/8" copper tubing union is the same size). You will need a claw hammer to pull the pipe hanger, a tubing cutter to cut the pipe and either two channel lock pliers, two adjustable wrenches or an adjustble wrench & a pair of pliers. (You need one tool to hold the union steady while tigthening with the other). Begin by shutting the water off, then drain the system down until there is no water in that pipe. You should be abled to drain at a laundry sink or faucett in the basement or an outside hose bibb. When the water is drained cut the pipe and install the union where the leak is. Once tightened the union will servie as a code approved permanant repair. After the union is installed and tightened you can turn the water on again, then go to each faucett in the house and open the faucett to bleed off the air in the line until you get a full flow of water and go to the next faucett. After you bleed the air out the job is done. Total cost of repair about $5 for the union.

For the past few months, we've had a muddy spot in one far corner of our backyard for the past few months. I figured it was the result of removing some vines in that area a while ago and bought some new shrubs to plant -- only to find, just under the soil about 3 inches, a small obviously leaking PVC pipe. Here's the thing: we have no idea where this pipe could be coming from. We've lived in the house for almost 12 years and had no knowledge of any backyard plumbing. We don't have a basement; no outdoor water features; no French drain that we're aware of; our gutters (which we replaced after moving in) aren't connected to any piping system. The county water authority came out and said it's not their stuff; they guessed it was some kind of drain pipe since it was relatively small and made of PVC. We do have a massive teardown/new build going on next door, which is separated from us by a 15' high retaining wall. But it's on the opposite side of the yard, and there are open drain holes in the side of the retaining wall (no sign of any underground plumbing system). We have a plumber coming out to try to get to the bottom of this, but it will take a few days, and in the meantime we have a small pond forming in our yard. Any ideas about what this could be? Our house was originally built in the 1950s, added on twice in the 1980s, and is in a very dense close-in suburb to a major city.

As to Greg’s comment, you know men and women communicate differently so bear with me! The sewer pvc was run along the exterior of the house, right up against it. I have one small area of drywall inside the house that is registering wet. the Sewer line is under a slab in that area. So now that I know the water meter is not moving, the sewer line is in that area , I can only come to two conclusions. One, the drywall had a previous leak from rain into or under brick on that area ( house now has stucco over brick) BEFORE THE STUCCO APPLICATION , or the sewer line is leaking and saturating the slab/drywall in that area. I’m leaning toward this is old damage from before the stucco as the drywall does not feel soft but reads on meter as 100% wet. Does this make a little more sense?
