Replacement cost coverage on contents means that the insurance company may repair or replace the item in the event of a loss. If you had to replace the item, you would receive the amount of money required to buy a new item. Actual cash value coverage means that you are covered for the value of the item less depreciation. This is a very limited form of coverage. Make sure and ask your insurance agent or broker what the basis of claims settlement is on your insurance coverage for your personal belongings. If it is actual cash value, you may want to ask for a quote for replacement cost insurance. Your best bet is to call a high end paper installer. Then assume, IF you could find the same paper and you prpbably won't, but let us assume a very similar, untrimmed, hand painted, and the amount you would need. Let us assume it is priced as a SINGLE roll, and packaged and sold as a double roll. Because this is the issue with paper. There are "drops", pattern matches, and there can be , depending repeat, a very significant amount of waste. Which means even if you found it, you would need a total do over as the dye lot would be very different, and the age of the paper not replaced would be truly glaring. Thus you say, IF I found it, and it was 250.00 per single roll, with a comparable repeat, and you installed it........................what am I looking at? In dollars. And you present a signed document to the insurance company. Courtesy of a very reliable installer. Are some 100 year old patterns still "alive?" Yes, more likely in fabric, than in wallpaper. We often wish we could stop the hand of time. But a visit to any of the infamous luxury sources will show that the hand of time kept moving. De Gournay, Cole and Son, Scalamandre, Cowtan and Tout, Brunscwig, Schumacher all. Many more as well. This probably saddens Mario Buatta more than anyone. But for an insurance claim, you need the dollar info, of at least the similar in quantity, price of the goods, and installed in your home. Be prepared for some negotiation......: )

Ginger, please press pause and think about all these these things before making any decisions. The bulb shades are up to you, but bare bulbs are very glare-ish (is that a word), not kind to the skin, not romantic, and gives some people headaches. You can get little fabric shades or less expensive paper shades. Ballard Catalog sells them, but you can get them elsewhere for less money. They can be plain off white silk (real silk or other fabric) or linen or paper or you can do them in your wall paper, but that's too matchy-matchy. A dramatic look would be deep color. Sometimes they are lined in silver or gold. Not necessarily saying that would go well with your decor. I love the look. Just know the Swiffer duster with extendible wand is your friend, (My ostrich feather duster feels so neglected, I am tempted to dye those feathers and stick them on a hat, but I just don't have the nerve!

I would focus on 3 colors predominantly- black for furniture and curtains (existing unless you’re looking to change window treatments too), warm gray for carpet, paint and background colors and gold for accents. I would pull the carpet color from the color of the leaves on the wall paper to tie it together. Same for paint. I’d take one of the colors you like from the paper and match it to paint. I would recommend pottery barn furniture in black - it will look much better than the mid tone gold wood pieces the previous owner had.
