In the photo - the wallpaper seems to have a darker and a lighter sample.
With the darker sample the dark trim works.

But it is kinda dark.

Thanks, its the same sample, i just moved it…its the lighting. maybe i will grab one more sample can from the paint store one shade down. the dark paint is BM La Paloma Grey and the light paint is Pale Oak.

Right. Agreed. Lighter is more serene. But on my screen that paint color doesn’t match well.

The closest you can get to the base of the paper I think the happier you’ll be. :)

Which color is more flattering to your complexion? (a very important consideration, I would never decorate with yellow for that reason!)

Are you leaving the chandelier the way it is, or putting mini-shades on those bulbs (highly recommended to cut down on the glare) and thus totally changing the appearance of the colors?

When you entertain for dinner, do you usually use a tablecloth and is it white, and therefore, the black of the table is never seen?

What is your china like?

What is the art for the walls like?

The room must be decorated in harmony, not piece by piece.

Otherwise, that is how it will look, disjointed.

Thanks, there are mo other fixed elements except the table and chandelier. i havent bought window treatments yet, and we arent that fussy about entertaining / china. i wasnt planning on putting shades on the chandelier but suppose thats an idea

Ginger, please press pause and think about all these these things before making any decisions.

The bulb shades are up to you, but bare bulbs are very glare-ish (is that a word), not kind to the skin, not romantic, and gives some people headaches.

You can get little fabric shades or less expensive paper shades.

Ballard Catalog sells them, but you can get them elsewhere for less money.

They can be plain off white silk (real silk or other fabric) or linen or paper or you can do them in your wall paper, but that's too matchy-matchy.

A dramatic look would be deep color. Sometimes they are lined in silver or gold. Not necessarily saying that would go well with your decor.

I love the look. Just know the Swiffer duster with extendible wand is your friend,

With that said, I like the darker color.

I have seen Pale Oak and I love it, but it does have a pink undertone in some lighting.

Work with your chandelier first. Make sure the lighting, wattage, color of the bulbs are what works for your paint color, wallpaper and you in the room. If you are going to put shades on, do it now, because that will also change the lighting in the room. Then you will be able to settle on a paint color.

Thank you! i tried pale oak as i already had a can since it was used elsewhere in my home. gojng to try Nimbus today which has a LRV of 60 vs 70 for pale oak so i hope its a solution. The chandelier is dimable and we arent planning on putting on shades- ive never seen shades on this particular (king george) chandelier ?

I would not put shades on that chandelier either, but it was brought up and I don't know your vision. So glad you are keeping the chandelier as is.

What brand is this wallcovering? I thought it was Schumacher but their feather wallpaper looks different than this, now that I look at it.

My vision is just a clean room - no additional furniture and maybe only one painting. There is not much wall space. It is a 14’ x 15’ dining room with 3 windows and double doors as well as a built in China caninet and fireplace.

For subtleties sake and for a more monochromatic look, I think I would stick with matching the background color, however that happens to read in the room itself. Sometimes this is not a exact match to Anything, but a match to the general overall background as it appears on the room.

I'm not loving that darker gray with your flooring.

Thanks all for the opinions! Greatly appreciated! Just for an update I tried BM Nimbus today and I think this is the winner. I appreciate the comment on the paint next to the flooring (red oak) and I agree on keeping the color lighter.
