It's a great space. Are the wicker chairs yours? Can they be stored another place? And is that a sofa behind them?

I'm going to give you my advice as a mother of young adults, not as someone looking at design.

You are probably not going to spend many years living there, and will most likely move a few times before you end up in a permanent home. No matter how careful you are, furniture usually pays the price of every move. If you can, use the things you have instead of tossing them. That is, if the sofa is still good, but just not the color you like, etc. You can use a slipcover, add pillows, or add other accessories to make coordinate. If you need a good chair to go with the sofa, look on craig's list, garage sales, or consignment stores. I have been spending a lot of time looking for good used furniture lately for my girls and it is out there, you just have to have a lot of patience.

Better pictures without the wicker chairs would help a lot too.

If you keep the wicker chairs, you can spray paint them any color you want and add some bright throw pillows.

Does your mom have any pretty quilts you can lay across the back of a sofa or hang on a wall?

Inexpensive potted plants that love shade will add to your room.

You'll have a lot of fun decorating!

yh marti8a you're right. i'm not going to spend more tha 5-6 years here, but i dont like these chairs and that bed at all. i'm thinking of buying a cheap corner couch and place it under the window instead of this bed looking at the wall near the old computer, where i will hang a TV.

in that wall next to the bathroom door i'll place a medium-sized desk for my computer and i'll also get a more anatomic chair. The TV and that TV desk will be thrown away as well :)

Here i'm wondering if i could use it as a seperated area(well seperated from the mini living room) to have my electronics stuff such as the oscilloscope and other things and also a place to categorize my university and other books.

finally, i could make some changes to the kitchen to become more a "youth kitchen" you know. any additions or removals?

oakleyok i'm thinking of painting a part of a wall with their themes www.lumicor.com . Are any of these suitable to my place? what kind of palnts would you suggest me to look?

Oh, now I see, it's like an efficiency apartment. Actually, my daughter had a similar arrangement except her kitchen area wasn't as big.

Could you get a futon to function as both sofa & bed? Even though they are creations of a sadistic mind (carry one downstairs and see if you don't agree), it would serve the purpose of making your space multifunctional. Then a couple of cushions in the wicker chair and you have a nice conversation area.

If you don't want your computer stuff out in the open, there are computer armoires that would work.

yh. i thought about that sofa&bed solution but my bedroom is upstairs so i dont really need to go after that solution. a corner sofa would be defo great for that space dont you think? Another thing is that these wicker chairs are bought to be outside in the alley :) we bought them a couple of days ago. That space will be used to watch sports on telly and play games on the playstation and watching movies of course so i dont believe that chairs are a good solution to have here. A couch will be a better solution because i can stretch my legs out :D oh and when football's on we need more action and a little less conversation like the song goes :)

I've got 2 computers. the one next to the stairs is an old one so i wont keep it. the other which is functional will be placed next to the WC door as you can see. i think there is enough space for an 1m desk and an office chair with wheels. I used to have a computer armoire but i hate them...

this is how i would like my room look after the decoration. only the couch must look to the oposite side heading the TV but i couldnt find a better picture on the internet :) i will remove the carpet and the library in the corner and the whole pc-desk from there. so it is going to be an empty space!

I like the sectional and it would look good with a softer color paint. I guess I don't really understand why you are staying for 5 years or if this is a separate apartment from the rest of the house, or just your getaway.

Does the old computer work? If it does maybe with a few new inside parts you could keep it to hook up to your T.V. as a media center for storing games, movies, etc.

it's to old to play HD movies. i'll connect my new computer to do that. except that new TVs are brought with ethernet gate so i can connect it to the internet!

well i'm 20 years old. most of the children in greece live with their parents until 25-26 years old. :)

You dont help me with the softer colour paint term. i would like to give me more specific details about it. maybe i should paint the walls with 2 different colours. for example the corner i'll place the couch and the TV could be painted something like a soft red colour and the other a very soft yellow almost white! wouldnt be great?

First things first: you need to clean it up and get rid of everything that's going. It's very hard to decorate when you can't clearly see your space.

I find it easiest to find one item that you absolutely love, that can be your jumping off point. Find that item, and the paint, accessories, and accent pieces can fall into line fairly quickly.

Clear that place out! There's too much junk getting in the way of making a plan.
