I had a conversation with a kitchen designer yesterday on a similar situation. I want to use a 5" filler to store cutting boards in a pull out. I also want it to have a shelf at the top to hold condiments, oils, bottled stuff, etc. He said that I would need to pull the cutting boards out from the front which can't be done since the front would be attached to a door panel. But now that I think about it, could the door hinge open and the shelf pull out by itself with just a small edge to hold the sheets/boards? Maybe the boards would not stand up straight. Guess they need side supports.
I currently have my cutting boards in a plain filler that has an opening of 5 inches and is the full base cabinet height. I have no problem getting them out except that it is hard to see what is inside. Pulling them out from a shelf would be much more user friendly for such a narrow space. Would help if the shelf opened fully to make accessing the boards/sheets more convenient--no twisting or angling.
I think your idea would work. But I think that my wanting another shelf of 6-8" on top might decrease the space necessary for removing the sheets/boards. Do you have a part number for the rev-a-shelf you're considering?
I'd like to hear from someone who has tried a workable solution.

Have you looked at the RAS pegboard version of the filler pullout? You may be able modify that much easier by just putting in something into the pegboard to secure the trays.

Are you settled on a pull-put? That is, could you just do an open cubby with adjustable shelves, and set them to what works for you? This is what I am doing. It's a simpler and more flexible option, in my opinion and I've no issue with just reaching in (not far -- and I can see all of the sheets and boards) and pulling out what I need. And, b/c it's narrow, I'm not worried about things sliding down. The other good thing about an open cab like this in our extra-deep lowers is that it can be made deep enough to hold a full sheet cookie pan.

In my previous home I had a corner base with a lazy susan but the cabinet itself wasn't square - there was an extra amount of space on the right half that was separated from the susan by a wall. I kept my cookie sheets and cutting boards in it. I thought it was hard to get into and stuff got pushed to the back of the cabinet and I had to go digging in there with my BBQ tongs to get stuff out. I'm not sure how wide that opening was, maybe it was only 2 - 3 inches or so.

dylpup - I liked the vertical storage, I just found it difficult to use. That's why I thought a pullout might work better. I would like to be able to pull out the shelf and pull stuff up and out. That's really what I'm looking for, I guess. The mechanics of the 6 inch rev-a-shelf filler was what looked good to me, using only the bottom shelf with the wire dividers. Not sure about the stability of the whole thing if you took out all the shelves. venice_2008. If I didn't use a pullout filler then I would need a 6 inch cabinet (I'm getting frameless). That would leave about 4 1/2 inches of opening I think. (Please let me know if I'm wrong on this. Every 1/4 inch is valuable in this situation!) I'm worried that I'd be back to using my BBQ tongs to get stuff out. That seems like such a SMALL space to dig into. Maybe I just need to mockup an opening that big and just practice putting things in and out. It's good to hear that you don't think its an issue. By coincidence, our lower will also be extra deep there - 29 1/2 inches.

surveymom, I'd have to check my notes on this, and I don't have them with me, but I think a 6" open cabinet leaves you with 4 3/4" inside -- not much, it's true, but I don't think you get much more with a pull-out filler, and certainly not with a regular pull-out. I'm stealing one or two inches from the drawer bank next to it, to give me a cubby with an interior of 6" (we're also doing frameless). On paper, it doesn't read like much, but when I measured what needs to go in there, it's just fine.

As for getting things out, I can see how it could get tricky if things get pushed back, but if they're kept at the front, then it shouldn't be an issue. One thought I've add is to put some kind of "stopper" mid-way or so (like the LV drawer dividers) inside the cabinet on one side so that smaller things, like my cutting boards and pizza stone can't fall into the abyss, while on the other side, my full-sheet cookie pans have the luxury of the full depth.

Might not be perfect, but I'm optimistic it will work.

We've decided to go with Scherr's cabinets, so I can have any size I want. I just keep forgetting. I have so ingrained myself to think in 3 inch increments! I could steal an inch or two from another cabinet and ensure the interior is 6 inches. That's a good idea about putting a stopper part way back in the cupboard. I could put away my BBQ tongs then.
