I'm bored,bored BORED!

Cruddy weather, NO projects to work on. NO decent yarn in town for the one measly little project I could do. Going to spend an even more boring afternoon at work!

Not only are we back on budget, we're ahead! All overnight. I've been bugging Ed to sell the blue car. We bought a cheap work truck in order to pick up lumber for the house repairs, but instead, he loved it and now drives it. I still have my trusty, rusty, dusty 18 year old Miata; takes a lickin' and keeps on purring. So we didn't need it. I'd wanted to recoup the cost of recent repairs on the Miata and suggested $1000. He wanted $1300 out of it, but we sold it to a nice Mexican couple with a three year old cute lil' guy for $1100. What can I say, but they were nice and were quite lovely. I wanted my car to have a nice new home. And now every bill is paid, with some saved for a rainy day. Hurray!

Okie, average high in my part of Michigan is 17F in January, average low is 9F. My house was built in the 40s and isn't particularly efficient, so heating it higher than that would cost me far more than I care to think about. CC, Elery does indeed love me, and fortunately, he's even warmer than I am, 50 makes me wear sweatshirts and insulated socks. He might put on long sleeves! Grainlady, a couple of winters ago you said you did all your baking in a solar oven year round. Because we had 28 consecutive days with zero sunshine in February that year, it wasn't an option for me. (grin) What happened to solar? I figure if I put my dough in my south facing window, it would probably rise there too. If it wasn't dark when I got home... Bob, as an additional method for proofing, you could put a leakproof container of warm water in a cooler, add your dough container, put on the top and cover the cooler with a towel or blanket. Voila! Counter top bread proofing oven. The cooler will retain warmth as well as cold, I used to use one regularly for making yogurt. Very low tech, available to everyone, and at no practically no energy cost. Annie

I haven't read any of Suze Orman's books, but I did watch a special with her answering financial questions on PBS a couple years ago. She seemed pretty on-track. We are totally into paying off our house early. We are on a 15 year mortgage right now and always pay a little extra. We are hoping to move soon, so we will have to refigure all of that, but the jest will be the same . . . moving towards paying it off ASAP. We don't have any other debts and hope to own our home free and clear by the time DH is 50 (that gives us 12 1/2 years). We do invest in a 401K, but with the tax shelter, we really don't notice it. It is 10% of our income, but it keeps us in a lower tax bracket, so the actual take home hardly varies. My husband loves watching the stocks and spends a lot of time on such websites as the Motley Fool (A site for people who do their own investiing without stockbrokers), but other than a few very small stocks, he hasn't done much with it. He knows he has to answer to me! LOL! I was thinking about the gal you listened to on TV about investing and saving money. There was a local guy here in Spokane that did a weekly show on investing and financial strategies. He went to our church and in reality he was one of the most financially screwed up people I knew and they even filed bankruptcy! I did some graphic design work for him and nearly had to take him to small claims court before he paid . . . even so we ended up involving the pastor as a mediator! So I guess it was the old "those that can't learn, teach"! It would be interesting to peek into the lives of other "financial gurus" and see if they practice what they preach. Brenda

Lol, well I'm sorry, Joe, but I can't feel too sorry for you! I'm sitting here waiting for my first bloom! I usually get something open by Memorial Day and there is NOTHING open out there. At least you've seen some blooms already. The weather has been wonky here too. Nothing severe like in other parts but not normal either. One day it's 80 and the next 5 it's 50. the roses aren't growing much at all. Our averages should be low 70s in the daytime and mid 60s at night. We've had frost warnings twice in the last week. NOT FAIR! Our frost date is May 15th for Pete's sake. I put my tomatoes and peppers in just last week ( I did wait until after the frost date) and then promptly had to cover them all or lose them. Arrrrgh! I'd move it. It's having to compete too much with the Jasmine and that's probably slowing down it's progress. Bonica is a repeater so it should have bloomed by now. Usually only once bloomers take more than a couple of years to have their first bloom. If you'd like to have them grow together, which would be pretty, you need to grow the seedling up bigger first and then replant it with the Jasmine.

This time of year is bad for that. I don't know how the weather is there, but we had sunshine for two days and today is rainy. It seems like you're either waiting to start a project or get halfway through the middle of one and then can't finish because of the weather. Good luck on finding something interesting to do.

Speaking of yarn!
I went to a Garage Sale yesterday and they had 6 huge rubbermaid plastic containers heaping full of skeins of yarn. Most of them were not even used. They were only asking 10 cents each! I brought home 2 grocery bags full.

Oops! I bet that doesn't cheer you up!

Well take a scenic drive to Larimore and help me tile the shower, and paint all the trim, and rip out carpeting in the basement.

If you're still bored after that, we can start laying out the landscaping for the front yard...and rip out the carpet in the livingroom...and refinish the living room floor...and hang closet doors in the sewing room!

See...you'll be busy and happy and get to play with Harry and Sam!

Grab your gloves...we might haul some big rocks from the fields, too!

Better yet come on up to British Columbia and I'll find lots for you to do -
I am changing jobs in 2 weeks, going from caretaking apartment buildings to working at the head office. Before the new caretaker arrives I have 2&1/2 storage rooms full of crap I have to sort and either store somewhere else or get the goodwill to come and get. Meanwhile I have to paint and clean a unit for her to live in, patch paint another one and clean from top to bottom another one. In another building I have 3 suites that need various things done to them before they are rentable.
I also have to put together some presentable work clothes for office attire, I have been wearing paint splattered clothing so long it will be a shock to wear something that is paint free....
add to that the regular duties associated with my job and my own life, and yep, I could really use your help if you're bored...lol.
No time to be bored in this neck of the woods.
