Sheer Descents
Comments (2)I have 3 sheer descents (24in wide each) on a raised wall 3 feet. I have one pump. The water either returns through the pool returns or through the sheer descents. No separate suction. I have a variable speed pump so it is programmed to run my sheers at a higher RPM. I don't know what sound effect you are looking for, but at full blast, these things are loud. I do not have a spa....See MoreSheer Descent vs. Scuppers
Comments (4)Thanks Dude !! I wanted a natural/lagoon look for my pool so I went with all natural solid stone on the coping, beam wall and steps. Went with pebbletec Tahoe Blue all the way to the coping (no waterline tile)Pentair all the way with a SWG,Easytouch w/wireless remote,3' to 6'5" deep and about 22,000 gallons, sand filter, whisperflo for filter, superflo for water feature, and Challenger pump for the Legend cleaner. I couldn't believe how effortless my pool was to maintain and clean my first year..only hope it goes this easy next year. I have watched your pool build and it looks really cool..keep up with the photos. btw...The Big L is one of my all time favorite movies...See Morehelp with a sheer descent design
Comments (6)As a pool designer/builder I would probably install the 6'. The scale to the pool length looks better than a shorter one IMO. You may want to do a mock-up of the long wall with the waterfall in place. Some thin pieces of wood set up work fine. Then you can see it real-time. The Sheer Descents requires 12 GPM per ft. So a 6' requires at least 72 GPM and a 4' requires 48 GPM. We always use a separate pump and small cartridge filter when installing these, or any deck or laminar jets. We won't tie it into the filtration system. Piping must be sized accordingly to move the water and accomplish the proper look. Hopefully your PB has experience in sizing piping and pumps for applications such as this. The water fall should not be any higher than 3 1/2' above the water as the sheet will break up....See Moresheer descent waterfalls- water flow uneven!
Comments (1)There's definitely debris caught in there. Sheer Descents need to have a rock trap in line and also they should have a small filter as well. SD has a cleaning tool much like a thin blade that can sometimes clear the end. The SD would need to running to do this so you will get wet. Organic materials like leaves, will eventually decay. Small pebbles or similar will not. The small water passage ways inside are not designed to allow debris to pass through. An air compressor on the return side of the pump to the SD may purge any debris??? Cutting the pipe on the return side and use a shop vac to pull back debris?? One would have to be creative to make an adapter of sorts to fit over the spill lip to push debris back towards the pump....See Moreolemissrebel
