Please pray for my SIL

The one who had my STUPID BROTHER arrested and put into prison for domestic abuse...it's finally hitting her, she's suffering from depression, PTSD, she's not eating, she's suicidal, you name it. She is getting professional help she said. She is barely hanging in there. Pray for her to keep strong and that she makes it through this

I've thought of her so very much since you posted before, and hoped all was well with her. I'll be glad to send caring thoughts her way, and prayers that she can overcome this latest blast.

I told Mom about you guys tonite when I visited and she was so amazed that strangers would hope and pray for her and I told her "they're not strangers they're my friends and they know you I've mentioned you and Gram and they know how special you are" and she got all choked up and asked me to please thank you all because [Like I said!!] she felt very empowered and strong and ready going into surgery and she said she could only attribute that to her friends and family, she felt enveloped. On a lighter note, I couldn't bring flowers to the ICU its a nono - so my Mom mentioned continuing the health trend from this setback by making smoothies [ok the dietician and orderly got her revved because they know she'll be limited for a while after surgery] so I bought her a smoothie machine with a big ole purple bow :) She *loved* it!! They may move her out of ICU and into the regular wing as early as this weekend pending things go well. How cool is that? Yay MOM!

prayers for her- may the healing gift she has brought to others be brought to bear for her own sake, now...and may her knowledge of the human body make her more responsive to therapies than most. prayers for her children, that they will not feel abandoned or a burden in the new household. prayers for her partner, who will be stepping into new roles every day, as parent, and caregiver, and breadwinner, and spokesperson. prayers for family and friends, that they may find their own lives steady and calm, so they have more to offer this family in its time of need. blessed be. all of you.

Terri, I am real sorry about your dear friend. this is devastating news and i suspect she will depend on someone like you for her strength. i know she also has a daughter and new grandson. we can never explain why things like this happen, but you have been a good friend to her. we will keep her in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. also, i know today is a tough one for you. losing jamie 3 years ago is on all our minds today. you have not been in the forum recently but i actually posted last week about jamie - sorry about that. she has been heavy on my mind. my thoughts and prayers are with you. your brother will be there tomorrow - hope he can help thru this difficult time. much love sent your way. between all this and dad facing surgery and your DH having problems as well.....you are a pilar of strength. deb

This is becoming a problem more and more...that's why we often recommend 15" deep wall cabinets! The other place that is potentially a problem is counter/bar seating...does your sister have a raised bar that's only 12 to 14 inches deep? If so, her plates will just barely fit on it. Ditto if she has a cooktop/range or sink in an island or peninsula w/only 12 - 14" behind it for seating (counter-height or bar-height). If she has either of the above, then she probably should "...Find new plates...." However, if she doesn't then I agree she should consider putting them in drawers...assuming, of course, that she has drawers other than those small top drawers. I'm not a fan of open shelving so I don't recommend that unless she'll be using all the plates frequently (or she likes dusting/cleaning!) If drawers won't work & she cannot find replacement plates, then I would price out what it would cost to: make a couple of replacement cabinets + take out the current ones & crown molding + install the new cabinets + re-install crown molding (will be a little trickier unless all the cabinets are the same depth). Does her DH know that if she gets new plates most likely she'll need new bowls, salad/dessert plates, etc.? Still, the new cabinets will probably cost more, but if she plans to stay in the house for a long time, then I recommend they consider fixing the problem rather than putting a "band aid" on it. (Has she tried to put her platters away yet?)

It is at that point that many women go back to their abuser. I hope she is strong enough not to.

DSIL has said that she is able to take care of the kids, barely. The two older ones (14 and 11) don't understand the depression. I don't blame them, it is hard enough for an adult to understand. SIL has also said that all of her friends have abandon her. I am so glad I checked in with her so she knows that I didn't. I let me sister too know to check in with her. My sister doesn't understand nor know what to do. I said basically you treat her like that stray puppy that is too scared to come get the treat from you...go slowly. Don't push.All are in counseling, she is on meds, so that is all good. I can see that she is trusting me more as she tells me more. I never judge and always praise her for what she does (and I am honestly very proud of her). I do not push to have the kids come visit for a weekend. If they are currently her reason for living, I do not want to take that away for even one night. My girls and I are trying to think of something to do for her to make her feel special. A friend suggested a massage, still thinking, that is good, but want more ideas before final decision is made!

I hope her meds really help, Vickie. She is doing the right thing, no matter how hard or depressing it is.

Maybe you could treat the whole family to new haircuts and styles? That usually makes a woman feel a little better about herself.

What a shame that your SIL is having such a rocky part of her journey through life, just now.

Yes, it is hard for outsiders to understand depression.

Good wishes and kind thoughts plus some prayers going out for her and her young ones ... yes, and for your brother, as well. And for you, that you know how best to deal with her, in these difficult days, and have grace to carry it through well.

God grant you sensitivity, perceptiveness, wisdom and grace for the coming days.
