Colorful Cabinets
Last week I interviewed Houzz member Abbey K. about a Victorian she'd worked on and I could not help but notice how lovely the painted cabinets looked. Sometimes I think we tend to think of cabinet options as either white or a range of types of wood. Not true. The possibilities are endless.
The images below range from very traditional neutrals to eye-popping modern lacquers. As usual, I say forget resale and make your cabinets whatever color pleases you. After all, you can always repaint them eggshell if you ever need to sell your home!
Houzz members, while I was able to find plenty of kitchens with colored cabinets, I searched high and low for colored cabinets in bathrooms but only managed to turn up a few - if you see any more, please let me know about it in the comments section!

The gray cabinet here inspired this ideabook.
This cheery green cabinet adds to the vintage modern feel of this bathroom.
If you love a happy blue/green, why not go for it in your kitchen? It gives this kitchen a sophisticated country charm.
This shade is a beautiful neutral that keeps the feel traditional and classic.
This blue-gray shade looks great with the granite counter tops and butcher block.
You don't have to commit to having everything match. Here the cabinets are wood, while the green island adds a big dollop of color to the kitchen.
I love this bold blue and how it works within a palette of grays that's introduced in the tiles and light fixtures.
These colored cabinets add to the subdued elegance of this kitchen.
Here's a similar kitchen to the one above, taken a shade or two darker. Wait, is this the same kitchen that I showed in blue in the third picture? It is! Is it painted, or just REALLY different at night? What do you think?
Distressed black contrasts nicely with the light walls and counters.
The trim on the cabinets takes a cue from the color of the corrugated metal.
The mix of materials here gives this kitchen a very European look.
This very blue bathroom always delights me!
These blue cabinets infuse the loft with color.
Modern Kitchen Cabinetry
What follows are some very sleek and modern cabinets in a range of unexpected colors.
Sleek red cabinets are a contemporary contrast to the rough-hewn wood table and ship's-cabin-like curved wooden ceiling.
These cabinets have an industrial workshop feel.
A daring bright periwinkle is something you don't see every day!
Here the red/orange is an accent color, not used on every cabinet, so that you don't overdose on it.
