Help me find a room to use BM Cedar Green!
Comments (16)You're right Kellienoelle, good eye! They're all different. So how do I figure out which BM color is closest to Pic #1? Honestly, one wonders if BM has realized that they make more money selling the wrong colour than the right color. Not long ago I asked for AFC-350 Tumeric & they mixed 2160-2 Turmeric. (What company has two different paint colors with the name off by ONE letter?) It would've maybe worked out, except the color in the can wasn't EITHER Tum- OR Turmeric, but Carrot-Soup with a hit of Fully-Loaded-Pampers!...See Morecedar siding stain choice for new cedar home
Comments (7)I took a few of the same shingles the house was sided with over to the paint shop to have a few samples done. Sikkens RDC is what they were recommending although again being oil based it made the shingle samples look darker. The natural seemed to be the closest to what I am looking for but not really what I truly want. Other than the fact that water base finishes don't last as long or protect as well, are there other inherent problems with using one of the hybrids as suggested. Another paint shop was pushing Olympic Maximum clear (hybrid) and it appeared to be closer in color when put on as a sample. Faron, I'm not sure what back primed means, but if it means sealed both sides and all edges before installation, the answer is definitely no. And to help answer your question, I"m looking to see as much grain and as much of the original color as possible. I've heard a bit about the Log and Siding but was concerned about it producing a look which was much different to what I have now. Any thoughts? Thanks to both of you for the help. Comments (2)mikeyvon, Goggle in cedar finishing and you'll discover that there are many different ways to finish cedar, depending on what your looking for. Follow the mfgr's recommendations. Finishes perform best when the coating is applied to all surfaces (face, back, edges and ends). Comments (17)pressurepros, Good tip on creating my own filler. I remember we did that in wood shop a long long time ago. I've abandoned the idea of plugging the old holes and drilling new ones.. I agree it would look pretty "spotty". I have very little crawl space under the deck and many of my peir blocks have settled (actually the ground has settled). The only way to remedy this is to lift the decking off and shim the 4x4 peirs. Since I've removed all the screws, this is a perfect time to do this. Once the boards are lifted, I'm going to attempt to clamp my drill chuck around the broken screws and remove them, similar to what you have suggested. This is a new drill (DeWalt) with Carbide Jaws, so I'm hoping that works. If not... I guess I'll try vice grips. Where the screws have broken off at the surface of the beam, I guess I'll just try to angle the new screws in using the old holes. mike13, My decking boards are just normal 2x6 cedar boards....See More- 12 years ago
