RBG rock garden update
Comments (19)You can put just about anything down to interpretation but meanings would become so hazy that no one would know what anyone else was talking about. We live in a country of rampant relativism using phrases like "to each his own" or "thats fine for you but I believe this" on any given subject which makes any discussion break down into nonsense. I guess Canada is no different. I suppose if I wanted to call a garden in my back yard a cloister garden since it was closed in by a chain link fence I could do so according to my own personal interpretation but it would be considered ridiculous to most gardeners. Personally I think its important that words retain universally understood meanings but that seems to be a lost cause nowadays. We can now call things whatever we like or prefer, never mind if none of it is accurate because who is to say we are wrong? Its just our interpretation after all. I'd be ticked off if I'd spent the money to make the drive to see a 'Rock Garden" if I hadn't read before hand it wasn't one at all. Camps, you guys over there seem to go through national garden phases. I suppose we do here too but I don't notice it so much but of course down here in Oklahoma its not like we are on any kind of cutting edge....See MoreHelp!! Updating the exterior of this ugly rock covered ranch!!
Comments (15)Your home isn't ugly. The flowering tree (tulip tree?) is especially lovely. While the rock probably wouldn't have been my first choice, neither would the pale blue/gray siding. If you're considering repainting anyway, do consider a darker gray for the siding and trim -- the darkest in the stone -- with a very dark gray or even black for the fascia....See MoreExterior update keeping the original brick color..ideas? Suggestions?
Comments (22)red, yes, I could see a darker one. I posted a slew of color combos on my first comment. any of them would work w/her brick not sure if OP's rick is this color. I love this combo. looks like Urbane Bronze or Iron Ore, or Black Fox I posted (as did others) a lot of examples of colors to go w/this color brick. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5934636/advice-needed-for-choosing-exterior-trim-colors-for-a-yellow-tan-brick...See MoreWhich AFTER do you like best & other ideas for updating!?
Comments (15)I have to agree; its a perfectly fine house and the brick is very nice! The porch could use a bit of updating with 8x8 posts, but you probably need the railings to stay within local building codes. I think you might want to beef up the top and bottom of the railing so it doesn't look small with the larger posts. You could remove a few of the spindles and do a decorative section for a bit of a change up (see pic below.) If your brick is still available locally, I would widen the steps, adding railings there too. Sad landscaping, walk and siding colors. A deeper flower bed under the bay that wraps the street side of the walk on over to the drive would improve things. I'm not a fan of the corbel trim(or are those decorative lights?) all around the eaves. Not sure how big a project their removal would be. The garage doors are fine; their style really calls for white paint. Actually, the bay siding would look better if it was white too as a balancing element on the right side. I think I would do all the siding in white and let beautiful landscaping, including some ornamental trees out in the lawn, do the trick here. Not sure I would worry with the door and shutters; leave them as they are and make that decision after you tackle the other projects....See More- 11 days agolast modified: 11 days ago
