Building a sunroom on the back of my house question

I am planning on building a sunroom on the back of my house. I currently have an existing cement patio where I will be building it that is larger than the proposed room. The patio sits about 6" below the level of the house. I am planning on cutting the patio where one of the walls will sit so that I can pour the footer and then I was planning on digging right around the edge of the existing patio to create the rest of the footer space for the other three walls. Does that make sense? My question is:

Can I pour 6" of cement over my existing patio to create the new floor or will I need to demo the existing patio?
