Did Pool Company get Gray Plaster job right?
Comments (14)It looks pretty bad looking at the pool fill picture. However, having said that when our neighbors got their quartz aggregate pool plastered with blue quartz, it was green for the first 4 days and you couldn't see any blue. When our pool company signed our contract we told them we wanted 20-30% grey and they said no problem. Then when it came time to pick out the tile and certify our plaster choice they told us that Grey with cause a lot of molting of the color as a result of the white plaster cream coming to the top and suggested it was not a good idea and then gave us a piece of legalise document to sign that basically said we were aware that it was going to look bad but we still wanted to go forward with it. We didn't sign it and later on fired the pool company and went with a pebble finish which is what we would have done originally if we were told this at the contract sign. I think you are getting the "acid startup" confused with "acid wash". The only way to do a "true" acid wash is to empty the pool, put on rubber boots, gloves and hip huggers, pour muriatic acid down the side and then with a brush, brush the side of the pool with the acid. The acid will bubble and steam comes up and you can see all kinds of things getting dissolved. Starting a pool up with a very acidic pH is pretty standard. However, with pebble finishs where the pebbles are not affected much by the acid, an acid wash helps clean off the plaster glaze off the rocks. With plaster, even the color quartz, they typically just fill it up and you brush all the loose plaster glaze over the aggregate into your filter. I guess there is some times an option with darker high quantity quartz aggregate to expose the quartz aggregate with a post-plaster acid wash as an option. It doesn't sound or look like thats what they did though right? I believe that with a strong acid startup and lots of brushing, much of that white plaster "cream" will brush off and you will see the grey color beneath it and it will look much better than the first picture. However, my understanding of the grey colored plaster is that you still will see color variations and it will never be perfect as it just part of the problem with going with colored plaster and quartz aggregate finishes. I'm sure that there is a skill of not working the plaster too much to cause the white cream to come up over the grey but some variations will always be apparent even if the plaster'r was an expert....See Morechance of rain wed. should I cancel plaster????
Comments (4)Thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge! I'm in the same boat as the origingal thread poster today except they just started the plaster on my new pool and it looks like it may rain any minute. Also, radars show showers all around. We've had so many things go wrong on this job that I have no confidence left in my builder. If it does rain while they are plastering, what should I expect? How long after the plaster is completed will it be okay if it does rain? Thanks!...See MoreRepose Gray is a lot darker than what I was expecting...help!
Comments (29)I’m a little late to this board, but we used Repose in our old house that we sold. We used It as a whole house color inside and it turned out very pretty. It does reflect a little different in each room bc of windows and lighting. That house was 1600 sq ft, the dining room was very small and it looked great in there, made the room look much larger. All of that said, we just finished painting our current dining room in Repose today. We covered red walls. The first coat I noticed a lot of green undertones, and the color looked much darker. We have the second coat on and it’s pretty, but I’m not feeling like it looks as grey as it did at the other house. Depending on where you stand in the room, it looks grey, greige, or more tannish looking, I don’t know if the mix was off a little or if it’s just the lighting of the room. It is north facing, which is apparently not the best place to put Repose. I’m going to see how it looks in a couple of days and may try another grey....See MoreOmg I have to rent !!!! Should I expect all my roses are dying ?'
Comments (8)I think you did the best thing you could by trying to water it in to dilute it more but alas have no experience with a detergent water accident. I will say I accidentally sprayed roundup on a few things and while the foliage was ugly for a while it still didn't completely die so I would think your plants may be ok in the end and grow out the damage if any. Roses are extremely resilient plants I must say! What detergent was it? The reason I ask is because I had a rose planted in a spot next to my driveway where water would pool and stand around it and that water was from car washes and the plant is perfectly fine. It took a whole summer of this water and abuse. The rose is actually in my "is this Westerland" post and is doing quite alright despite the abuse!...See Morenanhsot
