Omg I have to rent !!!! Should I expect all my roses are dying ?'

I'm so upset right now !!! My careless husband who never cares about our rose garden managed to go out to the backyard and poured my whole bucket of highly concentraTed detergent water ( 1/3 dish detergent mixed with 2/3 water) in my roses and magnolia tree!!! I used this water to kill Japanese beetles . In fact there were more than 50 dead jap beetles in this yellow water . I didn't mentioned to him about this water but come on , i thot it's common sense to feel that the yellow water is not regular water with so many dead jap beetles in it ! But he still poured the whole thing in my flower bed for convenience !!! Omg I'm still so pissed !!

after like an hour he told me about the water ! I'm so upset about my soon dying roses and magnolia that I spent so many time and put so many efforts in it ! I should hAve reminded him not to touch the water !!

An hour after what he did , i watered throughly in the flower bed hoping it would save the plants, but am I just naive about it ?!?

i feel like crying now !! Help !

Will water everyday and already reminded hubby not to touch the bucket anymore

Let me add that when I 'saved' and watered the flower bed, I saw all the bubbles on the soil . (Crying)

I think you did the best thing you could by trying to water it in to dilute it more but alas have no experience with a detergent water accident. I will say I accidentally sprayed roundup on a few things and while the foliage was ugly for a while it still didn't completely die so I would think your plants may be ok in the end and grow out the damage if any. Roses are extremely resilient plants I must say! What detergent was it? The reason I ask is because I had a rose planted in a spot next to my driveway where water would pool and stand around it and that water was from car washes and the plant is perfectly fine. It took a whole summer of this water and abuse. The rose is actually in my "is this Westerland" post and is doing quite alright despite the abuse!

thanks you everyone again. I thought it might be the location too. They are in the least sunny corner of my garden (but I put them in that corner so they could run out and not get in the way of the other plants). But it does gat a decent bit of sun, somewhere between 4-6 hours I think (I'm usually not around during the day, and so don't actually see them till late afternoon). I don't really fertalize my garden except for composting in between the rows. It is also possible that I put them a little too close together (though they're not that close), but I can't really remember the planting directions. I will snap the photos, get some opinions, and either plant them in a differnet location or try a different type of cucumber. Thanks everyone! Rebecca

I have the iPod, smaller than the iPad, just as useful. It uses WiFi through my home computer, no extra bill. I can also use its internet functions anywhere there is a hot spot. I can use all the apps, books, music, etc. without a connection. I use it dozens of times a day. One, I'm constantly listening to audio books...full length, unabridged, audio books. I have 91 loaded into it right not, more in the Apple page. I can purchase audio books on line, or I can put any of the audio CD books I own into the computer and download them into the iPod. I have a Kindle app, so if I have time to sit and read, I can use it. I also have the eBooks and iBooks apps for more reading. It came with a many-functions calander, contacts lists, clocks (world, alarm, timer), voice memo, calculator, more-than-acceptable camera, an unending note pad, a maps function that is better than my high-$ GPS, a Weather app...the list goes on and on. I have a full version Holy Bible, dictionary and theasaurs (be nice if I was using them right now, LOL) I am very busy, and alone, all day, every day. I have the iPod tucked into my running bra strap and an audio book going while I go about my chores and work. When I'm alone I don't have to wear the ear bud because I can hear the books fine. If I want to listen to music I pop it in the Bose docking station and the sounds are wonderful. I don't play games, but I do use it to surf the net when I'm in waiting rooms, etc. I also have a couple movies in it at all times. I can post to my forums, read news, check on anything. I know every store and restaurant in the area that has WiFi!!! It's an amazing tool.

I've been trying to pare down my "stuff" - and not just my sewing stuff, for the past 2 years - ever since I retired, I've been looking at everything with a more critical eye - maybe just have more time now to get serious about what I want to keep or need - that first summer I donated 17 boxes of just all kinds of things you accumulate over the years, plus my huge 7-ft artificial Christmas tree (some places didn't want it!) an old computor desk, a chair that was my mothers (my brother unloaded it on me, he was one step ahead of me in decluttering, and amazing how you think you should own stuff that you maybe don't even want or need, because of its sentimental value!) the list goes on and on - I don't want my kids to someday have to dig through our house trying to decide about everything we own, and I know one daughter will want to keep everything "because it was Mom and Dad's" (see sentence about "sentimental value") so I'm doing it for them ahead of time. I had a nice little chrome and vinyl chair, box of nice books, 3-4 boxes of this and that out on the porch Thursday for Salvation Army to come pick up - they sorted through it all, and only took about half!!! - left the chair and the books - ??? My neighbor took the chair for her front porch, and the rest of the stuff I'm dispersing here and there in town to charities - it's NOT coming back into my house. I'm much more picky about what I buy now, and accept as freebies - don't need all that I thought I needed or wanted in order to be happy. As my daughter says - "There's a difference between needs and wants". Boy, didn't mean to ramble on about this! (And I do have a box of fabric pieces to donate to a church charity - of course that was one of the boxes S.A. didn't want).

Another piece of advice to pass on to your daughter- At this stage in her life she really might be better off in an apartment building that either has a building manager to handle things. When one lives in an individual unit owned by a landlord the way your daughter did, it’s catch as catch can whether or not the landlord is responsive, and how is a prospective tenant to know? It’s not as if the landlord will give references. When it comes time for repairs, will the owner promise to be there with the workman every minute, or will your daughter have to take off work every time to protect her belongings? Or worse, in an effort to save money will the owner try to fix the problem himself and not be able to, and then have to bring in a workman anyway, so now your daughter will have taken off 2 days of work!! In an apartment building, the manager would be there to supervise workman. I have been through all this myself. A cute little house with a yard sounds nice, but the reality is far less bucolic. A small efficiency apartment in a well- maintained building with a live- in manager and a management company in addition so that the landlord doesn’t need to be contacted for every repair is the best option for a busy young professional at the beginning of her career. And she’ll meet some other young professionals in an apartment building and that is good for her, to have someone right there. Sure you can have friends at work, but nothing beats a neighbor! People nowadays want gorgeous furnishings right out of the gate, but it’s just fine to have bookshelves made out of wooden boards and cinder blocks and a desk made out of a door on saw horses. To live in a clean, functioning, efficient, safe, stress-free place is priceless!!

If the mixture was thrown on the plants give them a good rinsing. Water the soil as you did. I don't think it will kill the tree or roses so you can relax. During extreme droughts my of us have used grey water on our plants. That is water from the washer, shower/bath and washing dishes. Oh, you don't need any where near that much soap in the water to kill the beetles. Just a tiny squeeze will work.

Patty is right. Just a tiny squeeze; all the dish detergent does is break the surface tension so they can't float/swim.

Ugh I feel so bad but I think you will be ok!! Maybe give em another water later if it makes you feel better .

I use a lot of soap in my jb killing water . If I only use a little , they try climb out ! A lot and it kills them really quickly. I use my husbands car wash soap . I hope it tortures them as they die .

Relax and pour on the water. Wash the plants with a good hard spray and then keep watering them daily. You may lose some leaves but I don't think the plants will die.
