How long is it taking to get State Income Taxes Back?

Ours has been gone a good while.We are having it direct deposit.I tried calling H&R Block that does our taxes but no answer.I guess since the 15th has passed they are now closed.I thought someone here might know.We never get back alot for state taxes but we are getting back some.I was concern.Thanks a bunch for anyone that can help me here.Judy

Judy: It will depend a lot on your state. I did mine the last of Feb here in Ohio, got a paper check within 15 days. We have a place online to go to find the status of refunds. Do a Google search for Where's My Refund? including name of your state.

We received ours here in New Jersey within 3-4 weeks.

Just moving it back up a bit. Some who might find it useful may not have seen it earlier. That amount that a single person can earn without being liable to pay one cent of income tax claimed above is incorrect. The correct figure was $46,345.00. in 2006 ... if solely dividends on Canadian stocks, with no other income, no income tax is payable by a single taxpayer. My suggestion to clients (and others - like, for example, here) was that I don't like getting tax refunds - which means that I paid too much from every payment, last year. If a person gets $1,200.00 back, it means that $100.00/mo. too much was deducted and sent to the income tax people every month last year, on which they paid no interest. Then your loan to them stayed at $1,200. from Jan. 1 till (Canada) the end of April, on which they paid no interest. It used to be that they'd start paying interest on overpaid money beginning May 1 ... but a few years ago they dropped that date back to June 15 (by which time a major part of the refunds had been sent out). If you'd like to make interest-free loans for even a short period, I'd like to stand in line to get some - where should I stand? And how soon do you want it paid back? Heck - I have to pay the bank 5.0% (or, did, until the Bank of Canada cut the Prime Rate this morning ... and most of the banks immediately followed suit - maybe it'll be 4.5% now). I like 0% better than that. When I put my money into the bank, they give me a bit over 0% ... but not much. Here's the information we posted on this page two years ago, Norbert, about how we encourage pineapple plants to produce fruits: We place an entire apple beside the base of the pineapple plant, Elena. Because your plant is growing in a pot, you should enclose the entire potted plant in a large clear plastic bag, and close the bag (underneath the pot for a more esthetic appearance). Then position it where the plant will get plenty of light but not in direct full sun, to avoid creating too much heat from the greenhouse effect. As the apple ages, it produced ethylene gas which induces the plant to create a fruit, which will grow to become as large as the pineapples you buy in stores. Note that after you pick the fruit for eating, the plant will eventually die -- but not before it has produced one or more baby plants, each of which in two years will provide your next crop of pineapples. Your preparer may overstated the degree of difficulty and that's why I made the comment - your praise seemed disproportionate to the degree of difficulty involved. While it may not be a common occurrence and the source of resolution not immediately familiar to someone who does other work (a Revenue Ruling and a Revenue Procedure from some years back, there are hundreds of each in most years), the treatment is pretty straight forward. A theft loss, which of course, is what it is. PS - If you only accept new (to you) information from other females and think there's a gender factor when getting same from a male, too bad for you.

In California, using direct deposit, our state and federal refunds both took exactly one week.

I'm also in CA and used direct deposit. The state return was 4 days and the federal was 6 days.

In AR, we filed on Sunday and had our refund on Thursday, I was amazed at how fast it was.

We are in North Carolina--we e-filed and had direct deposit. It took over a month for us to get our refund--seems the state of NC had to hold refunds so they could find the money to pay them.

I got my State and Federal tax returns back on Apr. 15th.

The later you file, the longer it will take...especially if you mailed a paper return.

If you know you're going to get money back, file that year as soon as you have the information you need. I filed the last week in January, electronically..and got my refunds deposited from state and feds within 2 weeks.

Why let the feds or state to keep your money that you're owed, for 3-4 months? With no interest?

I'm sure Ed agrees with me on this.

I didn't get my W2s until last Saturday so mine didn't get filed until today. So we'll see how long it takes. E-filed and direct deposited. I had everything ready and used a final check stub to estimate. Numbers were exact and just needed ID #s to finish up. We don't get everything needed until in March so I can't file before that.

Depends on the state. In NY if you are due a refund it takes till the middle of July.

WOW how ever state is different.I thought it was the same in ever state.This is so un-neat.I looked my up.We filed in march.We got our fed back in days.The H&R Block told us that they a lay off in the state dept.so it was going to take longer.When I looked it up all it said we are working on getting your refund back as soon as possible.I guess the lay off did make a defference.We shall see.
Does ever one have a H&R Block.I know not ever uses them but I was just wondering if ever state has a H&R Block?I have learnt a lot on this post.

H&R Block usually e-files your returns, and the fact that you got your FED back in days says they did e-file.
When you e-mail to state or FEDS, layoffs do not matter. E-filed returns are not touched by any people.

If I were you, I would call to see why your return is being held up. It may have been pulled for an audit.

We can't ever file until late March, we need certain things from our investment company that don't come out until then so there's no point in getting excited about doing the taxes. And not all states have the e-filing option. I think only about 37 states and DC allow it. AR only got theirs up and running about 2 years ago. Alabama does have e-filing.
