I love that chair! It has beautiful legs and arms and even looks comfortable.

How big is your room and did you get the dimensions of the chair? If you have the room for it, I could see that paired with a small table, a candle or two...

You have birds eye antique furniture, if I remember correctly. The wood tone will balance the color in the chair with your new bedding, just fine.

Thanks, Parma! I did get dimensions of the chair-- but comcast email has been down all morning so I can't get them (grrr %^%$##(*& comcrap). I THINK I will be moving my bedroom to a space that is smaller but gets better light.. I love linen with great light.. the new room also overlooks the backyard and garden rather than the busy road. Anyhow, I don't know the dimensions of that room but there is definitely room for the chair and a small table. I do have birds eye maple but with my room swaps, I will probably replace the birds eye maple with painted distressed and unmatched pieces overtime. I could definitely see the chair with painted furniture.

The woman who owns the consignment shop said the chair IS comfortable and it is solid wood. My experience with that style of chair is that I often need a pillow in the back -- I am on the high end of average height but they are often too deep for me. I am thinking some fun/pretty pillows will help draw it in??

I am also thinking maybe a rug with a range of neutrals will help.

This is the room I am thinking of moving to. It is much smaller but a decent space.

Before you even mentioned a white pillow that was my thought also. It seems that the wall color (which I love) of your room might be very similar to the chair color. I think when you've pulled it all together you're going to have a wonderful look. Can't wait to see pictures!

Ingrid-- I had been planning to repaint the room but you are right, it may just work as is. I do have that color through most of the house so I may still want to repaint but I will wait to decide. Thanks for the perspective.

Pattiem - wow, thank you! I love soft surroundings but I hadnt seen those panels. I got quite a deal on my linen curtains though because I bought such a large order all together so I will use those for now-- but I know where to go when I am ready for a new look.

I will definitely share photos when I am done-- but I seem to be moving slower than a slug on my projects.

What do you think of these dressers? They are currently at a good price and within 2 hr drive. They have a similar feel to the dressers I already have-- but I would paint these (I would break my mother's heart if I painted the birds eye maple-- and I don't think *I* could paint over it either).

The paint project will likely take time over the summer.. it isnt something I would or could do right away so if you thnk these aren't "just right", I have time to keep looking.

I think the dressers will look great with the bed, linens, and chair. Is there enough room for all these pieces?

I have to agree with the the majority. The outcome will be stunning. I chuckled about depth of the chair. At 5' 2" almost all seating leaves me cartoonish with my legs sticking straight out.

Oh thank you so much, everyone! It is an ebay auction so I got home just in time to read your replies and catch the end of the auction. I will let you know if I get them-- it will be a challenge to get the time (and vehicle) to get them so I have a fairly low upper $$ cap. If this set doesnt work, I will continue to look for one similar (and again, I have a similar set-- but I can't paint the one I have)

Yes, the room is big enough, these dressers will replace the ones I have and are very similar pieces. The chair should fit well too.

I don't know what I will do with lighting yet-- but the fan and two pendants will be removed/replaced. I am definitely planning on a chandelier but probably a small one and an overhead too.

The paint color is Duron Tavern Taupe (mixed for me at SW-- they have the formula under the counter).

Ginger, the consignment store is in Northern Md, Jarrettsville (near Havre de Grace. It is called Belle Patri. I found the chair through a listing on the Baltimore Craigslist.

I lost the tall boy dresser at the very last minute-- I was increasing my build (because I am competitive and I decided to blow my upper limit). I am currently high bidder on the low boy but I have decided not to up my bid .. so I will either get it for a great price or the person who bought all the other pieces to the set is going to get a great price on the set :(

I lost them both.. the set w/nightstand went for about $550. A good price, but I am betting on finding dressers to paint that are closer and for less. (Though tomorrow I may be kicking myself)

funkyart, I'm now really curious about the birds eye maple and why you don't like it as it is. May we see a picture of it, if you haven't posted it yet on another thread? Since the furniture is now yours can't you do what you want with it? Perhaps after you've painted it the look will be so great your mom will love it. If not, she'll probably still love you!

Ingrid.. I have photos to share but please look at only the furniture. It is in a "not even started" room. It doesnt reflect well on my style, home, or housekeeping skills. The wallpaper is partially removed -- as it was when I moved in. So, with all those disclaimers, please look at the furniture only.

It isnt that I don't like the birds eye maple, but I have had it for 20+ years and I am wanting a new look. I am not sure that this set, even painted, has the look I am going for. I would like a style that works better with the bed-- and that provides more/better storage. Can I make do with it until I find the right thing? Absolutely-- I can make do with it indefinitely.

Really, I do not think I would paint over birds eye maple veneer on any piece-- and I would pay for other vintage pieces to paint before I would knowingly upset my mom. When I do find a replacement, I will likely keep these dressers for another room or will keep in storage to pass on to a niece.

BTW the set was a gift for my 18th birthday.

Your french pieces can be beautifully worked together into a wonderful room..the bergere chair is absolutely gorgeous..and looks so comfortable..and the other pieces are wonderful...have you ever checked out a book called..Creating the french look...by annie sloan..check it out it will be a very very big help to the designing of this room

I have another wash stand/chest with very similar lines to the birds eye maple but it is oak. I will probably sell it at a garage sale this spring. It is a pretty common style-- but I am not sure of its origin. I should try to track it down... does anyone know?

Hi, Stinkygardener-- I have seen that room because I absolutely love the color but never hear anyone mention it. I was feeling left out haha. I love it in all light and it works well with most colors. Most importantly, it calms me.

The only reason I might not use it in my bedroom is that the kitchen, LR, PR, stairwell, hall and two bedrooms are all tavern taupe. That is all of my house except for the DR, bath and one bedroom. However, if I move everything in and it sings, I will have no problem keeping it. I have not yet committed to moving the bedroom though-- I need to work out a closet issue first.
