No gallery on this forum so I will share the odd litter here. This is what happens when you cross a white factored, bi factored tri colored sheltie girl with a bi factored sable merle boy. Almost one of every sheltie color!

Oh geez LOL! I had laparoscopy and the incisions are only about 1/4" and the one just under the belly button is like nickel size. All done up with surgical glue. Plus they told me to get up and walk around once in a while...just following orders LOL! rich_manure, Those are definitely Dianthus of some kind but not Sweet William (D. barbatus). I have an unidentified one too that I grew from seed taken from my neighbors pots a few years back. It's perennial, semi-evergreen and dwarf...has sold fushia colored flowers. I'd like to have some taller ones like yours...nice colors too :) Mine bloom in June and again fall when the temps cool down again. Here's a few pics.... June 19th...just starting bloom (they are covered now but you all grounded me LOL!) Last year on June 27th.... August 21st reblooming I only have to two plants but this year am planning to get lots of seeds. Maybe we could arrange a few swaps later in the year? Tiffy, Yes, that is just one plant and there is another one just caddy corner from this one that is just as big or bigger. This pic doesn't do them any justice as far as showing size. These were cut back pretty hard last year in April; lightly this April...I've been doing that too all my lavender since the 2nd year, plus as I harvest the wands (which will be soon) I cut back into the foliage but not hard and shape as I go. The wands aren't ready yet for harvesting; they will elongate and stiffen up more first. The I'll wait until a few buds actually fully open before I get at them. I'll get repeat blooms in late summer/fall...some I harvest more wands from and other's I let go to seed for the finches. Sometimes the pheasants and praire grouse come in to feed :)

Clays are interesting soils. They hold by far the largest amount of water, but release only modest amounts to the plants (the rest binds rather tightly to the particles). Silt's actually got the best plant available water characteristics. During spring, it tends to be soaking wet, low oxygen, and sticky. During summer, dry, higher oxygen, and given to runoff. Fall varies, but tends to be more like summer than spring. It has the least air penetration, so root systems tend to be no great shakes. Combine that with the lesser water availability and you have a problem. That can be ameliorated with plenty of OM and plenty of soil life. Earthworms will happily dig down several feet to make their homes (the primary species here can go six feet down easily). Clay tightens up and deflocculates if you look at it funny. Fortunately, there's enough calcium here that it's unlikely to happen, but I'd still use shampoo once a year if it were me. That'll help with water and air penetration as well. All things considered? I'd rather deal with pure sand than heavy clay, but you get what you get.

On the oil pulling, one thing I once saw mentioned somewhere is that some people may want to consider how they are disposing of the oil. Since it solidifies in cooler temperatures, it could potentially cause a rather nasty clog if you are spitting it down the drain. Personally, I could not imagine swishing anything in my mouth for 20 minutes. Linelle, coconut oil has been a "thing" for a while and how one reacts to the nutrition/health claims probably depends on one's point of view. My take on it, is that I like the taste and I do strive for variety so coconut oil is just one of achieving variety. It is quite useful as a moisturizer, as many noted above but I think as far as all the other possible claims, there is not enough information yet to say one way or the other. I did laugh the other day when in Trader Joe's looking at all of the coconut oil that was liquid. A true sign of summer.

Here's a pic of my first bloom on JC'S ROSE. I hope it was an abnormal bloom and that it will end up like yours ROMOGEN.... At first I didn't think it looked like HEIRLOOM, but it does... kinda. I'll just hafta wait til the next bloom to see what it does. That CARIBIA/HARRY WHEATCROFT of yours is gorgeous! My old one is barely alive, so I was glad to get that mismarked one! This is what's been crowding the old one... weeds, weeds, and this friggin' POKEweed:I chopped this sucker down a few months ago, and it shot up this monster. Looks small here, but in reality, it's over 5ft tall and the stem is about 1½" in diameter! My poor yard is a big mess. Your DIAMOND JUBILEE is lovely, and it could actually be correct. You'll have to show us the blooms as they progress. My plant is a stinkin' little tiny own root that I got from Vintage many yrs ago. It has never amounted to much of anything. I shouldn't have put it in the ground until it got a decent size. I think the soil in that bed is pretty crappy... altho... I have BERYLBACH right next to it, and that thing is a big monster, happy as a clam!! Here's a pic of my cheapie bareroot REDGOLD. It's not a great pic, as the blooms are kinda distorted for some reason, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be the correct rose. Others that sill haven't bloomed are TIFFANY, LOVE, HONOR, HANDEL, GRANADA.... and ARIZONA has died back to the bud union, altho it appears there might be a new cane trying to pop out. Not sure yet. I lost the ANASTASIA that I got at the Grocery Outlet. She just totally turned black. Never broke dormancy. Oh looks like my PINATA is correct: Hey Kristine, what makes you think that's not INGRID BERGMAN? Has it bloomed yet? I don't see obvious signs that it's not a HT! Own root plants don't look like grafted ones, especially in the first season. I bet it will be the right rose.

Jomuir ~ Have been on SN a couple of times and a friend of mine usually spends lots of time there. She is also a sheltie breeder. I don't show anymore as I am just not into the politics but I am familiar with a few breeders. My foundation mom's sire is a US dog out of Famous Amos line. The mom of that litter and retired now. She is an amazing mom and a very special girl.

Marg ~ That litter was really funny. I wasn't intending to keep any of them but The Painter Man is still Momma's Boy at 7; a title he now shares with his son Gairden's Blackjack. And my last puppy from Chloe's litter is now Ann's Momma's Boy at Trails End Iris! He is beautiful at almost 9 months now! :)

Ladybug ~ Nice litter with almost every allowable color. I am often asked what breed or breeds they are since they are all different. Bi black, blue merle with tan, tri, sable, and bi blue merle. I am missing a sable merle. Her next litter was 2 color headed whites, 2 bi blacks and 3 tris.

Angel's grandaughter, Chloe, just had a false pregnancy to Painter so I guess no puppies for Christmas. I really didn't want another litter at Christmas anyway. Next summer. :)

Adorable puppies. I've always liked shelties. I grew up hearing them called collies though. Eventually learned it's the same dog.

Uh oh....better not say that around a sheltie breeder. Shelties are Shetland Sheepdogs and Collies are Collies......2 totally separate breeds. These are Shetland Sheepdogs and I have been breeding them for about 10 years. Although Collies were used in the creation of the Shetland Sheepdog breed, they are completely different breeds. And shelties are NOT miniature collies as some have been lead to believe. There is no such thing as a miniature collie.

There are many herding breeds and they all have distinct and separate standards unless they are a cross bred dog and not registerable as a purebred.

Thank you for the comments and interest in my kids. They are a handful sometimes. I have 5 adult shelties and puppies occasionally. Very smart dogs, incredibly easy to train, and always under foot! As they were bred to drive stock, they instinctively follow me everywhere! Just try and close a sheltie out of the bathroom!

Very cute. I love, in the first pic, they look like they are smiling for the camera. I have to say, the last pic, I am a sucker for a black and white dog. So cute, all of them.

Cookie ~ It took a lot of crazy glue to get that first picture! They were all playing with each other until the moment before the picture was snapped and I got their attention. Always fun having puppies around and when all the dogs are together they look like a herd of Holsteins!

Yes we have a rescue dog and she is great, love her to death. But 1 of these days will get another sheltie. I think the next one will be called Shadow, as they are always by your side. Who needs bathroom reading material when you have a sheltie to talk to.

Good to hear! Yes, I generally have at least 2 of them in the bathroom with me. Growing up, the sheltie breeder across the alley had a tri named Shadow. Common sheltie name. Another one is Merlin......like that is surprising! :)
