Pics of almost finished boy's room

I posted a few wks ago about furniture placement, etc. for this room.

Well, it's pretty much finished, so I thought I'd post some pics.

We still need to paint the bed and the desk. I'm just fried. The desk also came in a distressed kind of black. But, it was like $60 more. I went cheap, and bought the antique white instead. I'm sure paint and time and effort will be twice that, lol. But the distressed black wouldn't have worked well, either. And the boys could care less what color it is now. They're just happy to have a desk in there.

Also want to do something with the tv. I mentioned in the other post it was my grandpa's console tv, and my mother gave it to the boys a few months ago. They were THRILLED to have it, because it was great-grandpa's. So, no matter how ugly that thing is, it's staying :) I'd like to try to paint it, too. Some day. But, it's not high on the priorty list.

Up until a couple months ago, this room was my 4 and 6 yr old's. They're the ones that picked the red. BEGGED me for it. But, then everyone decided to switch rooms. Little guys could care less about leaving the red, once they found out they could get bunk beds :)

It's hard to decorate in any kind of "theme" when you have boys 9 and 11 that are polar opposites. One, a bit of a nerd, lol. Loves pokemon. The other, skate boarding. So, it's a mix of everything.

Nicely done! Love the blackboard wall, and the arrows pointing to Charlotte! LOL

The theme of the room is "2 happy boys live here". That is all you need!

Hi hillarie - sorry that I didn't see this sooner! I LOVE my Donna Sandra tops - they have a few amethyst type spots, but nothing really "sparkly". Do you have a pic of the slab? It's possible that this batch is different. I used to have pics on here... but for some reason the links look broken - I will try to fix. I will say that one of the best things about my tops is that it's hard to tell when they are dirty due to the movement in the stone... you really don't pick up easily on crumbs, spots, etc., which is so great with a husband and three small kids who can make a quite a mess :) Romy - thanks for your post! I am so glad you love your deep drawer - I still love mine as well! Do you have a reveal thread yet? Just from that little peak I would bet your new space is amazing!!

Pretty, oceanna! RE: the HD . . .click on where it says "other options" (it says Shade with Cordless) or options/specifications. I don't see the liners, though. Maybe they are dark as-is? I found some others . . .they are 3/4 pleat blackout shades, cordless, and come in pink. The pink may be too peach, though . A sample would be good! See the link below. Frighteningly, I have a bird thing going in my house, too. Happened partly by accident (inherited mom's things) and partly as a response to the freaking Audubon party that happens on my lawn every day. I think it's the golf course nearby. Anyway, you need this picture frame in your kitchen, minus the unattractive married couple: There are lots of papers to explore besides Imperial Trellis. Neisha Crosland Majorelle in Mint, maybe: Ferm Living has some cute (Scandinavian!) paper: There's peekaboo from twenty2: You could maybe use Iconic panels, as long as they're not right behind the stove of course.

I can't say that you're getting good advice on the sink issue until you answer another question or two...do you have a "real" master bath with two sinks? And did you cap off the plumbing but leave it accessable in your daughters bath? If you answered yes to both, leave the long counter. You don't have to plan for a family that does not live in your home and two sinks in a one person bathroom is rediculous (I've had it...it's awful). IF you capped off you can advertise it's ready for two sinks when you sell if you want, but don't cut a hole without knowing if it's necessary. If you don't have a real master bath you've probably made a mistake giving it to your daughter and you should plan on making a real one when you move...but again, why do it now? It's an easy fix later. Someone mentioned whispy or gauzie for the window. IMO it's absolutely necessary. If you put in a bamboo shade you've added some texture but it's still a hard texture and your bath is far too high on hard textures and way way low on soft textures and the beach is all about softness. White for your towels and mats...keep it easy and soft (again because it's missing) go fluffy on those mats...fun and fluffy. I wish I had a pic but in my condo appt I went with a color very near your color and loved it. One thing I did to soften the big mirror was to use a bunch of picture frames on the mirror painted in a shabby chic type of white. (does that make sense?) They were all cheap picture frames, but mostly bulky frames, with the pics removed and then I velcroed (double stick velcro in white) the frames to the mirror, with a big one over the sink and the balance scattered around. You'd be amazed how the harsh lines of the wall mirror disapear in the debth of the framed pieces. I am with most in that I don't like the lights, but their placement isn't the issue, it's the harshness of the fixtures themselves...but that's an easy fix if you soften up the rest of the room with texture. Fluffy white mats, towels, white frames on the mirror, a soft breezy gauzy window covering (which could be done over a grass cloth shade if you want more privacy) and some lovely counter accessories (candles and sand, grasses etc) would really make the room sing, and fix all of your issues (IMO) I'd consider doing the gauzy covering by tacking the gauze to a whispy piece of thin beach wood for the curtain rod, and then hot glue sea shells or sand dollars or star fish every five or six inches as if they were holding up the gauze... A collection of antique perfume spritzers would be a lovely accessory to bridge your tween into teen.

Wonderful room! I wish I had done a blackboard wall in my kids' rooms when they were younger.... you did a great job, and I agree with les917 -two happy boys live here! That reminds me. One thing I always do is take pictures of my kids' rooms and save them for them because I always think of the memories such a picture will likely evoke. I know I'd love to have pictures of the rooms I grew up in.

Oh, very cool blackboard wall! Inspiring for this goofy blank wall I have in the kids' bedroom hallway. I'll have to see if I can talk DH into letting me paint a blackboard there. Is there roll on blackboard paint? I've only ever seen the spray-on kind.

Thank you for posting. Having 2 boys myself I am always eager to see how people decorate their boys rooms! I really like what you've done for them. What color are you painting the beds?

OT ?: May I ask how long they've shared a room? I ask because DS1 who is 4 wants to bunk up w/ DS2 who is 18mo. Currently they have separate rms. (BDRM's 2 & 4) & BDRM 3 currently serves as a playroom for them. We are expecting #3 in Sept. & that one will get BDRM 4 & DS1 wants to bunk up w/ DS2 in BDRM 2 & keep BDRM 3 as a big playroom.

What a fun room! Themes in kids rooms can be so frustrating, because their interests change so frequently. I like Les' "2 Happy Boys Live Here!" for the theme. Love that blackboard wall . . . what a cool idea! Soooo, who's Charlotte?

I like the "happy boys live here" theme also. Remember, the words of the old song,
"turn around and they're tiny"
"turn around and they're growin", are so true. Just enjoy your boys, and their room because all too soon they will be grown and you'll bee wondering how to decorate, or like me, turn one boys bedroom into a girly room because I had no girls!
I love the blackboard wall.

Lynn, Charlotte is the guinea pig, lol.

ttodd, they've shared a room forever. We have the two older boys in one room, little guys in the other. Our house is only three bedroom. But, they'd all share even if we had 4, or 5. They're all very close with their siblings that they share with, and would be lost without each other. It sucks when one of the older boys go on a sleepover at a friend's house. Because the other can't sleep alone, lol.
I love when I put everyone to bed at night, then sneak back to the doors and listen in for a few mins. I love hearing the chit chat that goes on. :)
We looked at an older, historical home before we bought this one. It had 6 bedrooms. It was funny listening to them go through the house, and claiming the rooms. Together! Nobody even thought about or, asked to have their "own room".
