Our Almost Finished $64 PSF House w/ Pics!!!
Comments (76)Hope you caught these persnickitydesign posts: "It was pretty much a full time job (plus overtime) and it still took a year and a half for me to get everything purchased & everyone lined up. ...One of my oldest & dearest friends' DH owns the HVAC company. He did our house at cost. Another owns the company that did our fireplace and garage doors. He also worked at the lumber yard for years and gave us the names of many of the subs that we ended up using. ...our friends came by to help us out and worked for free" "Our permits were $433. We're on county water & sewer and did have to pay a tap-in fee of $1067. There were no charges for the gas and power." "We are fortunate enough to live in an area where the cost of living (and cost to build) is extremely low. Plan prices are not mentioned. Also, keep in mind the year of the build--2008. There was a wee bit of a recession going on then, centred on the collapsing housing market. Trades were desperate for work, suppliers for customers. I had the fortune to build in earlier declines. With cash in hand, you were like a god. Now, not so much....See MorePics of almost finished boy's room
Comments (8)Thanks everyone! I agree, they're pretty happy :) Lynn, Charlotte is the guinea pig, lol. ttodd, they've shared a room forever. We have the two older boys in one room, little guys in the other. Our house is only three bedroom. But, they'd all share even if we had 4, or 5. They're all very close with their siblings that they share with, and would be lost without each other. It sucks when one of the older boys go on a sleepover at a friend's house. Because the other can't sleep alone, lol. I love when I put everyone to bed at night, then sneak back to the doors and listen in for a few mins. I love hearing the chit chat that goes on. :) We looked at an older, historical home before we bought this one. It had 6 bedrooms. It was funny listening to them go through the house, and claiming the rooms. Together! Nobody even thought about or, asked to have their "own room"....See MorePics of Yet Another Almost Finished White Kitchen
Comments (26)Hello, thank you for all the positive feedback. Can't wait to show my kitchen to my friend in the 'burbs--her pantry is as big as my entire kitchen. Paint color on cabinets is SW Alabaster. Hubby thought it was too yellow at 1st but we're both pleased now. Perimeter countertops are Imperial Danby marble, which I obsessed over, but I honestly think could have gone with something different (and saved some $$). We used it for powder room sink vanity as well as kitchen sink window sill, and it looks nice there. Range hood is 36 in. Best hood. Architect spec'd 36 in hood for 30 in. Wolf cooktop, which was a good call. He also did a good job with lighting design....See MoreAlmost Finished Kitchen Just in Time for Thanksgiving
Comments (6)Congrats! Hardware will wait for a little bit, but you'll want to take care of that pretty soon to avoid dirty fingerprint marks on the woodwork! But great that you finished in time to use it for Thanksgiving! (Maybe it's just me, but I had a hard time finding your pictures on the link....) DonnaR/CA...See More2LittleFishies
