LR arrangement update....kinda

There's been threads on and off about my LR and the ridiculously large scale furniture i bought for in it. Here's an update...

DH and i had yet another conversation about placement of the e. stand. Les - I had him convinced to try it on the wall to the right when you enter from the foyer. Then he said,"crown moulding" Turns out I never took that into consideration. The crown at the top sticks out a good 5"-5 1/2" from the sides. It would barely fit on that wall without it. We'd have the stand sticking out a couple inches in the entry. So it won't fit on that other wall where the loveseat was either

So that means it has to either stay where its at or DH's original idea of *gasp* at an angle. I moved some stuff around quick last night just to look again. Keep in mind we'll be getting another 'smaller' chair soon and i have another end table (same type except this one will be rectangle) coming. Please don't mind the mess. Our new TV showed up and i didn't get the old one out of the room yet and curtains will be hung this weekend.

I know i have the option just using the middle piece and ditching the sides but i look at it as i bought the whole thing, i'm using the whole thing. Don't care for it as much without the ends. Plus, DH is against not using the ends.

I'm thinking couch needs to be centered if i'm keeping it on that window and the loveseat needs to go on the wall to the left of the stand where it was. Small chair where i now have the loveseat? That's has to look better than what it does now. I didn't bother to move the light but it wouldn't be staying in that corner.

I'm not really good at furniture arrangement, but what if you arrange it like the before pic, but swing the couch off the window wall and around so that it is facing the entertainment center? Would that work?

thanks maidencane! we tried all kinds of arrangements and that was one. i could but i would need to keep it floating in the room and part of it would go across the entrance. couch is 8.5 ft. long. then there wouldn't be a lot of room behind..it looked odd to me.

i'll arrange it that way tonight and take some more pics

Actually I have an extremely close layout. We struggled with it as we have two major focal points in the room - the infamous fireplace and a wall of low windows that look out onto our lake. My first choice would be to move the entertainment center down just 2' or so. I would purchase preferably 3 loveseats or the equivalent in sectional (later versatility). Angle 2 around the fireplace and the other toward the television making a 3/4 "circle" around the room. It allows easy entry into and around the room and into the kitchen. Another option is same as above but place a chair w/ottoman or recliner to the right of the fireplace instead. When you do either of these options, the orientation is not all about the TV but conversing, TV viewing and the fireplace. The loveseats being at an angle enable those in the livingroom to converse easily not only in the livingroom but also those in the kitchen. Conversing when your back to those in the kitchen is not good! The neighbors have a made a "hallway" behind the sofa similiar to stloc and whenever we go there, it makes my husband and I feel cramped (not cozy at all). We have a low back sofa on "your" fireplace wall and 2 loveseats angled towards the sofa with a 4' wide space between them. It feels not only inviting but has proven to work great with large groups of visitors. We can sit in the loveseats and look out onto the lake. We don't watch TV but do often enjoy the fireplace too. kippy - we are very casual people and have no need for formal LR and we are considering using LR as our main hang out room (FR) - your second scenario - but furniture arrangement could be still an issue. We could always make FR into a library/game room or something along those lines. Did not think to use DR (current kitchen) as FR. Another proof you need "fresh" eye to see possibilities :) Edit: We would be loosing the eat in kitchen as we have now and that is a big sore point with my DH as he likes smaller, more intimate experience and does not like to eat in a big DR when we don't have company. I was trying to have more open kitchen so it functions and feels a little more as eat-in/DR.

Furniture was brought from another house, but I need to make it work here. Fireplace wall is going to be redone and when it is we will have the entire room painted. So please ignore the shelf decor and ugly marble. ( fireplace thread is available if you have ideas). I’m thinking agreeable grey for this room and adjoining library will be navy. I loved having the sofas opposite each other but in this house if I do that the view from the front entry is the back of a long couch. Also just found this 8x10 rug... what do you think size wise? I do need to get some pillows with the same navy if it stays. Sorry pictures are dark...

2021 Update: I ended up keeping the art here with some changes: 1- centered the piano on the large wall (below middle clerestory window), 2- grouped closer and centered the paintings; 3- swapped the larger painting (portrait) with the 2 smaller ones (landscape), creating space for a corner plant. Now, I am selling the house ;( . Your e-center and home are both beautiful BTW, and the idea of floating the sofa might be more pleasing to you if you placed a sofa table or trunk or low buffet behind it...at least I find that more interesting than just looking at the back, especially when you say there'd be lots of room behind it. Here are a few pics to give you an idea of how it looks before you heft all the furniture around.

Whoops---just noticed you said there *wouldn't* be a lot of room behind! Sorry about that--may not be room to put a table, but might work with the loveseat.

thanks for the pics sujafr. yeah i had to scroll up and see what i typed.
it's sort of frustrating because when we were going through picking out floor plans..originally there wasn't a wall there. the foyer was open to the living room. that would totally make this easier now. but nooooo, i had to have a wall. i wanted separation.
that next to last pic i posted i was standing at the entrance. so you can kinda see there's just not enough room to work with. if you keep whatever piece of furniture back that you're floating (don't want it smack in the middle of the room) it's off center with the entance and just looks stupid.
i promise i'm going to do some more arranging and take some pics. there's gotta be something better than this. i'm keeping my eyes peeled for a third chair also.
