Did Anyone Get an Easter Gift?

We are not big on gifts at Easter. I did make noodles and give two bags of them to each daughter and to our granddaughter. I did receive one card, a cross necklace and a can of pond fish food, from our oldest daughter and her husband. Did any of you receive an Easter gift?

My husband did...He bought himself a new tv....

I wasn't happy about it...

There are a lot of things we need a whole lot more than a tv.

Oh well, it made him happy.

I've only received flowers from my husband twice in the 25 plus years I've known him. He gave me flowers when I had chicken pox and we were dating. He also gave me flowers on an anniversary about 8 years ago. Brought them to my classroom even! I was shocked. My husband isn't big on gifts, but he treats me well throughout the year. I'd rather have that. He did surprise me this year with a huge Starbucks gift card. Everyone in the family turned in their coins and it came out to be $77. They know how much I love my mochas! Greetings ArtsyCraftsy, Hope this is still around when you return after Easter. I've never been much enthused about doing without something that didn't seem to have much intrinsic value on its own merit, just to impose a more or less artificial sacrifice during some short period, e.g. Lent. Self-sacrifice for its own sake, or as an artificial discipline, so to speak. It seems to me to make more sense to implement, after some previous thoughtful consideration, perhaps, some new idea, concept, chore, service to others, etc. that would have a positive, useful emphasis, whether to me or, perhaps preferably, to others. In the Spirit of my Master, one might say. I have a predisposition to prefer positives to negatives, letting newly developed positive values or activities crowd out the negatives. Sounds good in theory, but not so easy to live that way. Good wishes for coming out after Easter more Christ-like than when you entered Lent - whatever the method. For those who have a different allegiance - quite possibly your belief system might recommend a similar plan: likely your life could stand some similar medicine without doing it much harm. Some such ideas put into practice might improve things slightly in the Central African Republic, Northern Ireland, Sudan, Palestine, Zimbabwe and various other areas. As long as I didn't have to clean up the mess of the shredded paper, I didn't mind wrapped. I kind of enjoyed wrapping gifts. But I do think it's a waste of money and other resources. Better to use the comics or something. You can get creative in wrapping. My sister was the first to start using bags and cheapo that I am, I'd save and reuse them. We'd give the same bag back and forth. Now I use the reusable shopping bags more and more for gift bags. It's an extra gift in itself. As far as what I'd prefer to receive? An envelope. Stuffed with cash. Large denominations. As I've said before, THERE'S a thoughtful gift! You may wrap it in money if you want. Or use cash for the tissue too if you like. Christmas is approaching. Feel free to send anytime. It's cheaper to ship too!

Neither of my parents (divorced) gave me anything for graduation. I was the fourth of their kids to graduate, and I'm sure the older three had not gotten a gift either. It was just not in their financial abilities. There were no gifts from relatives. I had not even realized that gifts were ever given for graduation. So it surprised the heck out of me when a neighbor, my mother's friend, gave me a graduation gift, a dress shirt! I still remember that very shirt. I didn't have many clothes, so that was a great gift.

I got an Easter Lily, a potted mum and a box of chocolates. I didn't expect anything and was very pleasantly surprised.

I got a little packet of Easter treats from my brother and a carton of Caramilk Ice Cream from my daughter plus a couple of cards...it was 'sweet' of them both...lol.

Gifts for Easter? I've not heard of that (except for Easter baskets for the kids). Is that new? The origin of gifts at Christmas is the gifts that were brought to the baby Jesus; that custom carried over from that. But I'm not aware of why gifts would be given at Easter. If you do, that's great if you want. I've just not heard of it.

A friend brought me my annual gift of Peeps from her, and a gorgeous bunch of tulips and lilies from DD#6 and SIL.

Nope, but we celebrated our anniversary at our favorite restaurant. Eloped 44 years ago during my spring break. I was teaching, DH was in graduate school and on the air at WLW.

We always exchange gifts at Easter. Usually a plant that can be later planted. Easter lilies are popular. But we have given trees that were planted and still growing. I went to a craft fair in early spring with my sister 25 years ago and bought her a tray for deviled eggs. Every year since then I have bought her an egg dish for Easter. She called me the end of March and said enough! I have 30 eggs dishes. I made trays of cookies for friends, grew these funny 'egg' plants for kids in my life, and made little carrots for others. Maybe it is just a family tradition.

I think gifts can be given any time of the year, I give my kids things every once in awhile. They may not be big gifts but they are gifts and my kids do the same for me.

I got a very pretty Easter Lily from DH. It was a nice surprise. I also got a Russell Stover caramel filled chocolate bunny from work. Put that in the frig for the day the "Chocolate craving" might hit, lol.
