I got one of those but didn't open it. It probably came from Facebook. I understand there is a virus out there that collects data about you and all your friends. That's probably not a good explanation but it's all I got.

I don't think Facebook is behind these emails. Why? I use a Yahoo email addy for Facebook..and the 3 questionable emails I got went to my main email account.

I received four of the mysterious emails from Leslie and wrote her mid week last week at two different email addresses letting her know about the messages.

I started receiving the same kind of emails from an acquaintance who had my email address in his contact list. He too didn't know his email account was sending them or how to stop them. His virus scans find nothing amiss.

I have spent a great deal of time researching this "virus" if that's what it is, and can find no answers. I can find questions from people who have received them or know they are sending them but no virus experts seem to know the origin of the problem yet.

My best advice to Leslie right now is to delete all names from her email contact list (after writing the addresses down on paper for later use) to spare all her friends from possible attack.

The first thing she should do is make sure her anti-virus program is up to date. Then, she should run it.

That was a good idea to call Leslie. I know, she wouldn't want us to get any problems because of those messages.

Seems to me, it is/was some kind of worm, last time I got stuff like that.

Then it came from a friend of mine, that ended up taking her computer in to get rid of it.

I think some hackers were in full-blast mode this past week. An acquaintance's email account was also hacked (the person who did it allegedly asked for financial assistance after a crime).

I don't know but I don't think her email account is sending these. I suspect that an email forwarded to people in her address book is floating around out there without the recipients not being blind copied. Those email addresses are there for all to see and have been pirated by the scumbags who are using them to do this kind of harassment. JMO

I am sorry, I don't know the answer but one suggestion here was to wipe out all her mailbox, AFTER keeping a list and put in few at a time. Also, she might change her email addresses. If she has a good malware progran run that. Also you might post on the computer forum they have some really good people there to help out. I did not open it as I suspected a virus etc. Good luck and tell her not to worry, it too will pass.

I got a couple of them too. Everyone in the TO line had a name or email addy that began with a "C".

I'd suggest maybe asking at the link below. I knew it was not her spamming me, but sent her an email letting her know that I was getting spam and it was made to look like it was coming from her email addy. I figured her address book had been highjacked by Facebook or something.

I have gotten two of them, each with a different "Subject" name. I believe Facebook might be involved because the dates were when I posted on FB.

The other clue I noticed is that when I poked around trying find some clues, I saw that E cards were involved.

Don't know if her provider can help, but I second asking at CompHelp.

Someone co opted my email account a year or two ago. I found out about it when the undeliverable emails were returned. I erased over 5,000 of them. I called the email provider, and we changed the password. They said that if it happened again that they would cancel my account.

I got an email from her too, but realized after opening she would never send me something like spam. Now I know what is happening.

I got two, but I could not imagine why she would be emailing me with some incomprehensible subject, so I did not open them. I figured it was someone hijacking her email account or something like that. How upsetting.

I ran 2 scans before I got on line last night. And changed my password. I hope it did the job. If not, please let me know.
