Is there a 24 hour animal hospital or emergency vet nearby, or does your vet have an emergency (after hours) # or ans. svce.? If so, I would place a call to any of the above. It could be that your Kit-Kat is going on his own, but it might help YOUR state of mind to make some calls (and possibly bring him in if you can or need to).

I am so sorry for your impending loss. It is never easy to lose a beloved pet, no matter how old. You have my sympathies. (((hug)))

If you have no ER vets open tonight, just clean him up and make him as warm and comfortable as you can. I'm so sorry.

Thank you so much for your posts. It is hard. He is going very peacefully so I guess I have to be happy with that. And in his own little bed.

I would keep him as comfortable as you can. And I would talk to him. Tell him its okay to go, say goodbye, and pet him / hold him because this is going to be the last moment that you can.

I lost one 17-year-old cat about 5 years ago who died at home of natural causes. I knew it was coming, so that day I took the day off of work and held him in my lap all day. I don't think he was in pain -- his system just shut down and he went fairly peacefully.

I just wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss. I just lost my puppy a week ago... It is so hard. :(

I also lost a cat of old age. He was a stray when I found him so I am not sure how old he was , I had him for 15 yrs. I knew he was going so I took the day off too. I sat on the floor with him, petting and talking to him. He seem to not want to let go so I called the vet (we had a mobile vet)as soon as the vet got to the house KiKi took his final breaths and gave one small purr and he was gone. It was if he was wating for someone to be there to comfort me. I wish all my babies could go peacefully at home. It's the best way. I hope your baby is at peace now.

When I got married, my husband came along with a Westie terrier named Poppy. At age 7, she developed lung cancer. We tried everything, kept her with us till we realized it was hopeless, she was starting to have seizures because the cancer spread to her brain. Arranged for the vet to come to our home to gently put her down. She was resting on a throw rug, her mom and dad were nearby coing to her. It was quick and peaceful. Best money we ever spent on a pet. We buried her in our yard and planted a cherry tree on top of the grave. We call it "The Poppy Tree." That was 20 years ago.

So sorry mideb. That's the hardest thing about owning pets, they die on us too soon. Took me a long time to get over the death of my last kitty and dog. It's better if you can keep him with you, as mommy's presence comforts them.

You have my deepest sorrow. However please don't let the vet " take care of it", bury him so he wont be rendered into pet food, it can and DOES happen.
Also 17 isn't THAT old, What did you feed him?, what did he die from? Cats were built by mother nature to eat and process small birds, rodents and other raw prey, next time you get a cat you may want to try feeding raw or buy frozen rodents at www.Haretoday.com or at Rodentpro. if not then try Ziwi Peak or Innova EVO.

First off runsnwalken you are the biggest idiot I have come across on this forum. 17 is a long life for a cat. This happened back in NOVEMBER 07. Why would you start questioning the cat owner about the care they took when they have lost their precious pet? It is none of your business what type of food they fed the cat. BTW it isn't that old 17 I'e heard of cats living into their 20's normally on good foods, I wish you wouldn't attack me and understand that I'm only trying to help the owner so his next cat doesn't die from Kidney issues and that the dead cat doesn't end up rendered but buried or cremated. But now that you stated 07, I understand that its too late in this reguard for his/her cat, hopefully I can warn the user so he/she knows what really happens to PTS pets. It IS our biz to know what they feed so we can find the perfect food for the next cat that Mide gets.

runswalken, you really do not need to apologize. and NO, you are NO idiot!! It was obvious to me you were trying to help. I believe Jules did not read the message with the same angle, and OVER-reacted--this happens when you reply too quickly. HE is probably embarrassed about it now. I guess it would have helped if Mide had kept us posted about her cat "kit-Kat".

Our family dog Lady had a stroke one Sunday night. Mom held her all night. She passed in the arms of her favorite human.

Thank you for showing me respect anne. Unlike 'some of the other members'. I only wanted to make him aware of what really can and does happen to our animal friends and how to help stop this needlessness. Also growing up I've seen the results of feeding bad cheap food and have become strongly opposed to it.. because I believe there's a better way.
