Anyone with a MAC? Need advice....

I just bought a new iMAC desktop about 3 weeks ago. Everything has been going really well (I forgot how much I love a MAC) but then this weird thing started happening.

Yesterday I started getting an ERROR message when I tried to enter any forum on the WBS Garden Web page. I went to the quilting forum once, then I get the error message telling that "something in the address string is too long" and it won't let me in anymore. All other internet WEB pages work with no problem. I did a trouble shoot using the MAC help page and did what they said...but it continues. I also sent a picture of the ERROR page and told the online support folks what was happening, but who knows it they will answer.

Anyway, have any of you ever experienced this problem and do you have any suggestions.

Thank you for any advice you can offer. I'm using my Dell PC at work and that's how I'm writing this now. I bought the iMAC because I'm retiring in 2 months and MAC's are so easy to use and don't have virus's etc. ~LOL~ Let's hope that this problem isn't an indication of things to come.

I have had an iMAC for about a year and change now, and have never had internet issues. I go onto many forums on gardenweb. Maybe its a problem with your ISP...maybe it's not MAC-friendly.

Call the Apple support people...they are extremely helpful. If it's a problem with your ISP they can probably help you fix it.

When installing a new kitchen, we received incorrect information from the company Beckers Aarschot Belgium about the choice of kitchen countertop from HI-MACS. There were immediately scratches and stains that can only be removed with a polishing machine (very cumbersome). Upon inquiry with the main importer CRAS, it turned out that the selected material was not suitable for use as a kitchen countertop. The company Beckers was aware of this but 'forgot' to mention it. Initially, they had suggested installing a new kitchen countertop at no cost (both by phone and on site). Later, they went back on their word, and all costs had to be borne by us.

Need some mattress advice, anyone have heavenly bed or Ikea mattress?

I use the firmest mattress I have ever felt (a Simmons Beautyrest). It's great. It has only one sleeping side, so no flipping; it's designed for a platform base. This feels like a futon on a floor; it's solid. I'm 6 ft, 170 lbs. The mattress has served me well, with no signs of wear. I hate soft or medium mattresses. IKEA doesn't make one firm enough for me. Be aware, that just because a mattress is innerspring doesn't mean that it doesn't have a latex layer of padding.

Not sure that I would put anything above the bed; it may or may not look too busy with the headboard. Try some art on the blank wall first, and then see whether more is needed. Maybe someone could photoshop it for you. Groveraxle? Celery Girl?

Linda I'm using Safari. Since I've only used Explorer on my PC; Safari is new to me. I also went into the Computer Forum on the Garden Web and someone there has the exact same problem I do!! He said he deleted a cookie (he gave the name and I copied it so I can try that when I get home.) BUT...the thing that bothers me is why is it doing this all of sudden and will I have to delete the cookie every so often to make the Garden Web work?? You know I have no idea what a "cookie" is (other than the kind you can eat) and who do you talk to about fixing them? Would it be the Web address or is it the computer? Or even the browser?

Well, it looks like I'm going to be learning a lot about MAC's again huh? Yikes! I thought my impending retirement was going to be stress free. ~LOL~

Any advice Linda? Oh, I can download Firefox, but will my bookmarks and favorites be the same or do I have to start over?

Sorry to be so dumb...computers aren't my strong suit.

I'm a graphic designer and as such, use a Mac for all my design work (and a PC for email and such). Safari gave our design team nothing but trouble so none of us use it. We all use Firefox and love it.

It's been years since I've used a Mac, so I can't help there. But I can tell you that Firefox will pick up all your bookmarks. At least that's how it worked for me. Sometimes a different browser is what's needed.

I have an IMAC also and several days ago I got the same message. I have had this MAC for almost a year and have always come to the KT several times a day. I also have parallels on my MAC so I have been checking the KT through there.

I went up to Safari and clicked on reset Safari. Then I unclicked everything except "remove all cookies" then clicked on reset. I was then able to put in the url for the KT and got back in. I had to log in again but it is now working fine.

Thank you for making this post I have been wondering what to do for days.
