Anyone with a MAC? Need advice....

I just bought a new iMAC desktop about 3 weeks ago. Everything has been going really well (I forgot how much I love a MAC) but then this weird thing started happening.

Yesterday I started getting an ERROR message when I tried to enter any forum on the WBS Garden Web page. I went to the quilting forum once, then I get the error message telling that "something in the address string is too long" and it won't let me in anymore. All other internet WEB pages work with no problem. I did a trouble shoot using the MAC help page and did what they said...but it continues. I also sent a picture of the ERROR page and told the online support folks what was happening, but who knows it they will answer.

Anyway, have any of you ever experienced this problem and do you have any suggestions.

Thank you for any advice you can offer. I'm using my Dell PC at work and that's how I'm writing this now. I bought the iMAC because I'm retiring in 2 months and MAC's are so easy to use and don't have virus's etc. ~LOL~ Let's hope that this problem isn't an indication of things to come.

I have had an iMAC for about a year and change now, and have never had internet issues. I go onto many forums on gardenweb. Maybe its a problem with your ISP...maybe it's not MAC-friendly.

Call the Apple support people...they are extremely helpful. If it's a problem with your ISP they can probably help you fix it.

Ah, Sandy. I still have OS 8.6 functional on a Mac II CI. Still, I don't ever use the machine anymore, because it is soooooo slow! On the other hand, my Power Mac G4 400, is now an "old" machine also, and I have upgraded the OS to vs. 10.2.8, but that's as far as I can go, without a new machine. It is a never ending money pit, but new machines are unavoidable, just to stay connected to the web and email. Even your ISP will not support systems but sooooo old, and if you want things to work well, you are forced to upgrade at some point. I can tell you that you won't need anything more than an iMac, today, to get very adequate capabilities on a Mac. I can also tell you that the price gap between wintel and Mac has all but disppeared, if you compare functionality to funtionality. In fact, at work, I actually had to pay more for a Dell, that did the same job as a Power Mac G5. (smile) If you have an Apple store anywhere near you, it might be worth checking a new machine out. (Or a Fry's superstore, although they won't be able to offer as much help to you, as the Apple store, in looking at what the new machines will do.) Otherwise, my favorite on-line folks are Small Dog. Best support out there.....including Apple. (smile)

Need shower niche advice - anyone have a glass shelf installed?

I still have time to change this plan, and order a marble shelf to go in. How would this be done? The bottom tiles would be set, and then the shelf gets set on the top edge of the installed tiles. The top tiles then get cut to take into account the thickness of the stone and still keep alignment with the tiles on either side, and then they get installed. As for objecting to installing on top of the tile, yes and no. ANY kind of intrusion through the tile and waterproofing is cause for concern. But that can also be alleviated if it's "corked" back up with caulking. I had LED lights bars from environmental lights.com that were wonderful. With this remodel I'm going with hard wired ones from lowes. Linda I'm using Safari. Since I've only used Explorer on my PC; Safari is new to me. I also went into the Computer Forum on the Garden Web and someone there has the exact same problem I do!! He said he deleted a cookie (he gave the name and I copied it so I can try that when I get home.) BUT...the thing that bothers me is why is it doing this all of sudden and will I have to delete the cookie every so often to make the Garden Web work?? You know I have no idea what a "cookie" is (other than the kind you can eat) and who do you talk to about fixing them? Would it be the Web address or is it the computer? Or even the browser?

Well, it looks like I'm going to be learning a lot about MAC's again huh? Yikes! I thought my impending retirement was going to be stress free. ~LOL~

Any advice Linda? Oh, I can download Firefox, but will my bookmarks and favorites be the same or do I have to start over?

Sorry to be so dumb...computers aren't my strong suit.

I'm a graphic designer and as such, use a Mac for all my design work (and a PC for email and such). Safari gave our design team nothing but trouble so none of us use it. We all use Firefox and love it.

It's been years since I've used a Mac, so I can't help there. But I can tell you that Firefox will pick up all your bookmarks. At least that's how it worked for me. Sometimes a different browser is what's needed.

I have an IMAC also and several days ago I got the same message. I have had this MAC for almost a year and have always come to the KT several times a day. I also have parallels on my MAC so I have been checking the KT through there.

I went up to Safari and clicked on reset Safari. Then I unclicked everything except "remove all cookies" then clicked on reset. I was then able to put in the url for the KT and got back in. I had to log in again but it is now working fine.

Thank you for making this post I have been wondering what to do for days.
