marcshmallows...4 c=1 quart...a quart is a pound-if you were using the original recipe,it would ask for 40 large marshmallows,which would be equilvalent to about 8c.
So,use 1/2 the bag of marshmallows.

Regarding the Rice Krispies-the orig.recipe calls for 5 c.
there are 16 oz in a cup-crap, empty the packets out until you have the equivalent of either 5 or 6 c...either way,its pretty hard to screw up...lol

Sorry I'm no help I just take a half stick of butter, melt it then add about a half to 2/3 of a large bag of marshmallows, melt them stirring all the time, cook for about 5 minutes, slowly dump in cereal stirring like mad. I have a gas stove so keep flame very low while adding cereal. Dump into greased 9x13 pan....some times I sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top, if I'm lucky they till melt so I can spread them. EAT while warm, YEPT I love them....

Heidi does it say on the box of Rice Krispies how big a serving is? If you have a bag of Marshmallows that has 15 - 2/3 cup servings you have more than enough of those. You would need 6 - 2/3 cup servings to make 4 cups. I would think you would already have more than enough cereal to make these, and you don't have to be that careful with the marshmallow measurement, it just makes them chewier if you add a bit more than called for.

I have four 12oz. boxes of Rice Crispies.
There's ten 1 & 1/4 servings in each box.

each box has
10 cups PLUS
10/4 which equals 2 1/2 cups.

Each box then has 12 and 1/2 cups. You can make 8 batches with 2 cups total left over.

I have one 16oz. bag of marshmellows which has fifteen 2/3cups in each bag.
One bag would then equal 10 cups, so the one bag should do it....if I figured correctly...lol

1 box has 10 1 and 1/4 cup servings. That equals 10 cups + 10/4 cups. 10/4 = 2 2/4 cups = 2 1/2 cups plus the other 10, so you have a total of 12 1/2 cups available per box. That's enough for 2 batches with 1/2 cup left over.

Marshmellows:

15 X 2/3 cups per bag = 30/3 cups = 10 cups total per bag. You need only need 8 cups for two batches, which leaves 2 cups left over.

One box of Rice Krispies and 1 bag of marshmellows will make 2 batches of treats. You should have 1/2 cup of krispies and 2 cups of marshmellows left over.

4 boxes of Krispies yields 4 times (10+10/4 cups per box) = 40 cups plus 40/4 cups = 50 cups total. 50 divided by 6 cups per batch gives you 8 batches to work with, with a little left over.

8 batches requires 8 times 4 cups per batch = 32 cups of marshmellows required. 1 bag yields 15 times 2/3 cups = 30/3 = 10 cups total. You need 32 cups, so you'll need just over 3 bags for 8 batches.

You say you need 6 cups of RK's - why not just measure out 6 cups?
And then measure out the number of cups of marshmallows you need.

Great!...and not to throw a whammy into things, but have you even made them with peanut butter in them, or is that maybe your recipe now? After eating the peanut butter ones, the 'regular' ones are not near as tasty, to me anyway.

What's wrong with just measuring? Measure your rice krispies, measure the marshmallows.

I would only make one batch at a time anyway, since the mixture siezes up pretty quickly.

She was trying to figure out how many more bags of marshmellows she needed to buy to use up all four boxes of Rice Krispies. Since she can't measure it out in the store, we tried to figure it out for her so she would know how many more bags she needed to buy.

Cereal is sold by weight, not volume. Most manufacturers state that the product settles, so do not give an exact volume. To find out, measure.

Take one box, open it, and begin filling a measuring cup and dumping into a bowl. Count the number of cups until the box is empty, and then you will know how many cups were in one box.

Marshmellows: 15 serviings of 2/3 cups per bag.

15 x 2/3 = 10 cups per bag

Again, you could simply measure.

But, appearently, what you wanted to know is how much to buy when you go to the store? For cereal, I recommend measuring one box to find out because the stuff settles and is sold by weight, not volume.

The other trick is that sugared cereals weigh coniderable more than un-sugared. Check the weight of the contents and divide into the price per box. This gives you the price per oz or lb. Now, check the price of sugar and I'll bet that the price per wight of cereal is much more than sugar! The cereal makers are selling you sugar at high prices, and have been doing so for many years. What's more, the price of sugared cereal may be greater than the unsugared. The cereal companies make more profit on sugared cereals than for plain cereal because they are selling sugar at above the average price for sugar.
