Chuckie, You seemed a bit grumpy in your last post. I wouldnâÂÂt recommend soaking down your bins. My method is sort of inspired by your many small bins idea (and suits my âÂÂlaziest man in the world, yet still fully functionalâ lifestyle.) IâÂÂve got a couple small bins separating the feed/bedding bin from the base bin for air flow. Some of the worms like it better down there even though I donâÂÂt put food in them. Occasionally I will add some bedding if I think itâÂÂs getting too wet in the ghetto. I find it much easier to harvest from the muck. No food scraps or much bedding to separate. The castings arenâÂÂt that nice and fluffy, but when you make tea out of them, does that really matter? At harvest time (during gardening months, once every few weeks) IâÂÂll scoop out the muck, and put the worms into the high rent upper portions where bedding and food are abundant. Without fail though, they still gravitate back down to the depths on their own. As far as surface dwelling, donâÂÂt wild versions of our worms generally occupy the top 10-18 inches of ground? My bin isnâÂÂt much taller than 3â and not much more than a foot-and-a-half of substrate. So, even my bottom feeders are still technically surface dwellers. Granted, as of the past few months, IâÂÂve been trying to eat healthier and I never know what my son wants to eat or how much to eat, so both the dog and the worms have been eating a lot better. This might account for the added moisture that collects in the bottom. I havenâÂÂt noticed any added smells coming from the bins. This has been working for me for a little under a year. Last summer, I harvested from the top bin. I got a lot of compost (about 6 or 7 gallon buckets worth) but it took forever to separate. But back to the original reason for my post: when I dig through my bin, it is chock full of worms from the bottom all the way to the top. Maybe I need to split the herd into another bin, but that is probably another issue. Anecdotally, it leads me to believe that to determine population density, volume, not just area needs to be considered.

Not sure I agree. Unfortunately we're really missing some critical information such as if or when it compounds or are you just talking simple interest? That'll make a difference. Don't know start and end dates and don't know due dates and other terms or if there's any other charges involved - presumably not. Also the way it sounds there's no payments made, so from the simplest standpoint it could accumulate as follows: Loan originates on 9/22/9 with monthly payments. 9/22/9: 10% divided by 12 months = 0.83333333333333% per month. First payment would be due the following month and interest would accrue then, not in September. 10/22/9: 453.58 x 0.83333333333333% = 3.78 (plus prior balance = 457.36) 11/22/9: 457.36 x 0.83333333333333% = 3.81 (461.17) 12/22/9: 461.17 x 0.83333333333333% = 3.84 (465.01) 1/22/10: 465.01 x 0.83333333333333% = 3.88 (468.89) 2/22/10: 468.89 x 0.83333333333333% = 3.91 (472.80) 3/22/10: 472.80 x 0.83333333333333% = 3.94 (476.74) 4/22/10: 476.74 x 0.83333333333333% = 3.97 (480.71) 5/22/10: 480.71 x 0.83333333333333% = 4.01 (484.72) From this, 484.72 would be the end balance with accumulated interest. Subtract the starting amount of 457.36 would equal $31.14 in interest and totaling the monthly interest double checks at $31.14. You put it as a "bill" so if the first due date was September 22, 2009, then it might shift things back a month and add another $4.04 to the interest equaling $35.19 in interest unless there's a credit for paying 2 days early, which I'd assume isn't the case. And if it's not paid on time, it could add another interest charge too, but I'm assuming that's also not the case. So, with the limited info, that's the best I can guess.

Ken, There are two tablespoons per ounce. 12 oz. equals 24 tablespoons (2 X 12= 24). 24 tablespoons equal 72 teaspoons, because there are 3 teaspoons per tablespoon (3 X 24=72). If 72 teaspoons is the dilution strength for 100 gallons of water. The dilution strength for one gallon of water is .72 teaspoon (72÷100=.72). 3/4 (.75), teaspoon per gallon is as close to .72 teaspoon as any person could reasonably measure. One teaspoon per gallon may be too strong in strength. Don't beat yourself up because you had to check your math calculations. I get stymied all the time with measurements, especially the older I get. You're to be commended, showing wisdom by asking for a check up. Wise Ken! Moses
