Paint color dilemma (2 pictures)

Here is my wall and trim color in our room addition.

Even though this trim matches the rest of the trim in my house, it looks dark next to the blue and the white of the vinyl windows. I have the chair in the picture because that is the color of the painted furniture that will be going in there (almost matches the trim color exactly). If you look at the top of the chair against the vinyl window you can really see the color difference.

Here's the dilemma.

Originally the beam (all of the beam, including the dark trim) was to be painted the trim color, but I'm afraid I will hate it against the stark white of the ceiling. Should I just paint it ceiling white? Maybe add a clear gloss coat? Or not?

I realize I could post this at the decorating forum, but I'm afraid they'd have me repainting the trim a different white. :-) Maybe I should, but I think once the furniture is in there I'll be okay with it.

The painter is coming tomorrow morning to finish, so I need to make a decision ASAP. Thanks.
