You can use any color you want, and it can look quite attractive.

Have you looked at the picture threads in our gallery? I believe there are some examples of other trim colors in the Cottage Decor thread that are quite lovely... but it's not just for cottage decor, of course. In fact since so few do it, it can be very attractive and make your guests ooo and aaah.

Colors that come to mind are a muted green, tans, and a muted yellow/gold, but I've also seen peach and aqua look fabulous.

I painted the window trim raspberry. I did it straight over the walnut toned wood using a gloss paint. I love the look, but it's a bold choice. Oceanna has a good point, muted paint colors, but go with a satin enamel if you can.

There really aren't a lot of pics out there of colored trim. Maybe that will be the next fad? Anyway, here's three for ya...

In one of my apts I painted the kitchen walls cream and painted the baseboards and trim sage green. In the living room I painted the walls beige and painted the trim the next darker color on the paint strip. In the entry I had blue crackle wallpaper (this was in the crackle hayday) and the trim the blue color of the cracks. That apt was like the inside of a Crayola box, but I loved it and loved the look of colored trim. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I appreciate the idea that other's have done it. Bright white in the sun is too glaring for my sun sensitive eyes and I'm sick of the wood. Gotta go and buy paint now. Ta ta

Close this thread. Look at the list of all the threads, at the top right. Click on "Gallery." A new page will come up which is our gallery. Now look at all the titles of the threads. Scroll down to the one that says "Show me your cottage decor"... or do a "find" on "cottage." There it is.

Here's a link, but I wanted to tell everyone how so they'll always be able to do it for themselves, ya know? And I think ;you should also look in the living room, and dining room, and bedroom threads to see if you can find colored trim... but there seriously aren't many pictures out there. Meanwhile, though, you'll get oooooodles of great decorating ideas. It's like having a whole bunch of decorating magazines.

My upstairs bungalow bedroom is green with a lovely muted yellow trim. The color is Sherwin Williams Birdseye Maple, and it really works well for windows and moldings -- not too bright, mellow in the sun and cheerful at night, looks gorgeous with wooden floors, a happy find. :)
