I fed my kid those Pepperidge Farm cookies (made from cottonseed oil) and she broke out in rashes and scratched herself bloody. I ate those cookies and had the worst hayfever: runny nose & sneezing. Went shopping yesterday: They had strawberries for $2.50 versus organic strawberries for $3.45. I sniffed both: the organic strawberries was more fragrant, versus the regular with a slight chemical scent. After sniffing both for several times, my nose was in pain (I stuck my nose too close). I realized that it's the pesticides sprayed on that inflamed my nose. My nose burned for hours afterwards Two years ago I tasted grape at the store, and had a tummy ache. Strawberries is known for the most pesticides I'm very sadden by UK’s Daily Mail report that an estimated 125,000 farmers in India have committed suicide because of crop failure and massive debt since planting GM seeds. The vindictive dirt-throwing, defamation attacks against international scientists, and bullying tactics of big corporations made me more sick than the ill-effects of GM-foods. We are saved from our wheat being genetically-modified, thanks to the farmers voicing concerns that our wheat can't be exported, if genetically modified. Years ago (maybe 30 or so) I had some wonderful Indian peanut butter chicken at a friend's house. Over the years I've often thought about the strange combination and how good it was. Someday I plan to try an Indian Peanut Butter Chicken recipe. Has anyone here ever tried a Peanut Butter Chicken recipe, Indian or otherwise? It must be so scary for parents of a child with a severe allergy to see their child leave the house. In my thirties I developed an allergy to potatoes. I joke that it's un-American, but in fact it's pretty serious. I can't be in a room where someone is peeling potatoes, and years ago, before I knew how bad the allergy had become, I touched my lip with a hand that had touched raw potatoes, and it swelled up instantly. Scary stuff. Obviously, I don't eat potatoes. Potato flour is used in a lot of gluten-free snacks, so I do a lot of label reading. For years I could eat the rest of the nightshades: peppers, tomatoes, eggplant. But no more. The reaction isn't as bad as with potatoes, but it's still no fun. I miss tomatoes! I used to grow a number of varieties, and they were so good. A few years ago I made kidney-bean spaghetti sauce, a family favorite that contains a canned tomato product. I thought maybe canned tomatoes wouldn't affect me as badly. So I served it to family members and had some myself. I woke up in the middle of the night in serious pain. Every joint was on fire. Chi, I suspect many people like the new-car smell because it's expensive and they associate it with their beautiful new ride--not because the scent itself is so lovely. :-)

@pricklypearcactus lactaid doesn't work well for me either.. and i do get film on my throat.. but no trouble breathing other than any kind of mucus related breathing issues (sorry, i know that's gross). Regardless, she should see a Dr.. i was just hoping my experiences would help keep your worry at bay. Since I have had my issues since birth, i don't discuss with my dr hardly ever-- but now that I am developing bone issues (hence my jaw bone grafts/dental issues), I probably SHOULD start bringing it up. I already know that I have low vit D.. as do many my age.. but i suspect it is worse because I consume so little dairy. @kkay_md wow, lots of allergies to have dealt with over your lifetime. I think my sister is also allergic to a variety of chemicals as she has issues with spas and has sadly given them up and very much limited the products she uses. Sorry you keep getting reactions-- hopefully they become less frequent! I never developed much of a taste for cheese beyond mozz, american and parmesan-- but I do make quiche and some use some other cheeses. I knew Cabot was great about labeling but didn't know Finlandia did the same-- i am pretty sure they make a fontina that i like in sauces and quiche (gruyere has never been an issue for me). The worst? Cottage cheese, cream cheese, marscapone types.. but my body has gotten wise. They actually turn my stomach even before i get them close to my mouth. The smell of sour cream and yogurt also turn my stomach or make me gag if they are hidden in foods. It is gross and unladylike.. but it saves me from becoming very ill! These bodies are crazy things! ps.. my sister was still pretty wiped out this morning from yesterday's reaction but she just texted to say she's bounding back and feels good! I was concerned that the party was going to do her in (she is hosting) but looks like we can relax and she will enjoy the evening!
