Update on lost dog.

We took her to the vet to see if she had been microchipped. Nada, no microchip to be found. Vet feels she is probably a little over a year old. My hubs even ran an ad in the lost and found for her, and we had alot of calls but none that described her. We got alot of calls for small dogs missing. I had to wonder how you would loose a small dog like a Chihuahua! (Don't they fit in your pocket????) Well, there were several of that breed that people called about and some mixed small dogs that people called to see if we had found their dog. (getting off track here, sorry)

I feel like we did everything we could SO....

She is ours, with the vets blessing. Hopefully, we did the right thing by keeping her and not turning her in to the Hummane Society or Dog pound.(We did contact both the H.S. and D.P. and left a flier about the dog. No one contacted us. We tried really hard to find the owners, probably went overboard, because we wanted to keep her so bad. We are getting her her shots and a good worming. We think she is half springer spaniel because of her coat and her spots, probably the other half is heinz 57. LOL.

My husband loves her to death. When he goes out to his shop she is not far behind. He needed this dog because he had lost his dog of 13 years. (DaisyLou died of heart failure)He was still grieving after months!! when this dog showed up. This sweet dog is just so HAPPY! We named her Happy...Hap for short. (HAPPY dog who just "HAP"PENED along.)

Oh yes, I cannot forget to thank you all for the suggestions about her jumping up on us. She is getting alot better. Someone suggested a type of collar/harness to help that but when I called around to pet shops they did not have anything along that line. (I live in a small town...I think they call that a "HOLE IN THE ROAD")..lol

The best suggestion we tried was to turn our back on her and ignore her. That is working pretty good.

She knows she found the right owners who will just love her to death. Congratulations!

We found a stray yesterday....I walked the neighborhood for an hour looking for his owners (I had to go to my dads house)....I asked everyone I saw if they knew the dog...I had no luck....I could not keep the dog in my house because it was flea infested, unfixed and kept trying to mate with my dog...and I did not have an appropriate outdoor place to put him....a couple down the block said they thought they knew who he belonged to and would try to ask when they saw her ...well....last night a couple of men came to my door and said they heard I found a dog...I went with them and showed them the people I had left him with and owners and dog were reunited. Made me feel good ...plus I met alot of my neighbors.

Our son's dog, Kate B. left us in her 12th year. She slept at my feet on the corner of the bed for so long that I automatically bent my right leg to make room for her even after she was gone. I told my DH that we had to find another friend. He said we could not replace her. I told him that was true but a new little friend would help to fill the void she had left (I boohoo'd for what seemed like weeks...my son could not believe I took it so hard). Six weeks later Tess came into our lives, all 1 3/4 lbs of her and she has been the best dog of our 42 year marriage. She loves us both, loves to talk to our grown son on the phone...hates his 4 huge cats! We just took in 2 black feral kittens we found under our house. I thought Tess was going to disown us. LOL She loves to tattle on what they are up to and with those two they are ALWAYS up to something (what was I thinking!). The good Lord shared a wonderful friend like Tweed and surely HE will send you another that will help you during the trying times you are dealing with. they do wear orange bandanas during deer season in the fall. we don't allow hunting on the farm so it's unlikely anything would happen but yes, better safe than sorry!

My dog lost his balance and fell over

This morning mine fell over too. This was the second time in 10 days. The first time I just caught it out of the corner of my eyes so wasn't sure what happened. Today I was looking at him. We had been playing frisby and he was standing when he started to wobble, looked shocked, righted himself but then fell on his side. He lay on his side, with his herat thumping while I stroked him and comforted him. Eventually he got up and a few minutes later was looking to play frisby again. Instead he went to the vets! They checked his heart and have taken bloods. While lying on his side, he was staring in from of him, but wasn't shaking, coughing or anything else - just lying there with a thumping heart. He is a 4 year old LabxJR. I had a very inbred retriever that did simliar when she was a puppy but she was diagnosed with a heart problem (still lived a long time though) but this morning vet said his heart was fine. Any suggestions please?

Sounds like a great ending to me! I'd try the old lift one knee thing. They don't like it coming up between you and them.

Yay for you and Happy! You tried hard to find her home and then when that didn't work, you gave her a good one. What more could anyone do?

As for how to lose a chihuahua? Easy. My parents had one that liked to take himself for walks and if he got an opportunity, he would take off running and scare them to death. You couldn't prop a door open for a second. They'd call us and we would all drive around in their neighborhood, looking for him. It was real scary because he was so small and hard to see. It usually took 2-4 hours before he'd slow down enough to be spotted. He never came home by himself.

Sounds like she's really small -- in that case, if you still want to consider a harness, look in the cat-gear department. Really! They make harnesses for cats, too, and that would be a better fit.

(I can't tell you how hard I laughed when I first saw a cat being walked in a harness...)

Congrats on your "official" dog now. I can't imagine how that dog would've ended up on the loose when you found her. Maybe it got away from its owners who were traveling through the area (but why they wouldn't contact all the vets within a 100 miles -- as I would've done -- is beyond me). Or maybe they just couldn't afford to keep her anymore (but if I were in that situation, I would so want to make sure she went to a good home).

Regardless, you all seem to be fitting in well with each other. Many happy walks together!

Considering how truly lost this dog seems to have been, (no one claiming her in spite of all your efforts) I think her name should have been Lucky. Lucky Hap! Lucky you! Heart warming situation! Many happy years ahead for all of you!

YAHOOO! So glad you get to keep Happy.

I think ignoring is one of the best ways to break the jumping...once she figures out she won't get any sort of attention for it, she'll probably stop doing it. Most of my dog training books suggested the ignoring method for training in general, so that's what I used with my dog, Hank. I think it works well!

I'm glad to hear you are keeping her! Our local pound keeps dogs just 5 days before they put them down... I'd never take an animal there.

that is a Happy story! for the no jump harness they are pretty inexpensive and are on many websites including amazon so you could just order one. The dog trainer I had years ago used them and did recommend them so I think they give good results.

That is a great ending to this story! I'm very happy for you but am really thrilled for Hap!

We have to go to the vet tonight to collect two of the feral cats we managed to befriend and take in for neutering. We're still working on the mom, she is so fearful of people. Mean people suck.
