Almost lost one of my dogs yesterday!

If you have electric windows in your vehicle,make sure you lock them if you have pets in the car. I KNOW better,but we forgot to lock them when we started out. We were taking 3 dogs for shots. Little Michigan tried to come up front between the seat and door. I was telling him no,then he stepped on the window opener,the window opened and he was falling out butt first.I grabbed his skin and yanked him back in.Whew! So close,on a busy street and we have a truck.So he'd have probably been killed or at the very least,badly injured. My heart was racing! Turned out ok but could have been a disaster! I did wrench my back,been having trouble with sciatica anyway.But at least Michie is still here and none the worse.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO LOCK THE WINDOWS! I bet I do from now on.

That was a close call CR! The little dog I have now is always pushing the window button in the back, so I have to remember to use the window locks whenever she is going for a ride... never had that problem with my last 2 dogs.

Oh, yikes, that was close! Glad he's OK but sorry about your back, CR.

I accidentally closed a power window on one of our dogs' necks, once. That had to really hurt, because I got my own arm caught once and it was sore and bruised for a week. Now I'm super careful with the dogs and the windows.

Cigarette theory is a very good one. Teens do stupid destructive things to entertain themselves. I found a kid from down our street (18 years old) spitting in our pond to see if the fish would eat it. I can't even tell you how furious I was at him. Additionally I couldn't believe someone who I thought had the same love and respect for the environment would do something like that - but he did. Why? To show off to a 7-year old. At any rate, your fish were definitely poisoned. The question becomes, what kind of poison? IÂm not sure alcohol would have the concentration needed, but there are other things a person keeps in the house and in the garage that could have done it. A little bleach, toilet cleaner, lighter fluid, weed sprays etc. If there was no insecticidal/pesticidal spraying with a lot of rain to wash the chemicals into the pond (that day), then it is 100% something the kids did. Keep in mind, often the host of a party will not have control of everyone there, so he truly may not know what people poured or tossed in there. If I were you and it were my kid, I would tell him you did extensive research on-line and have determined it was something someone added at the party. If he throws a party he needs to accept responsibility for the actions of the people that attend. The ramifications of the fact he has irresponsible people attending his party, is it raises the likelihood of someone driving from his party (your house) while tipsy or drunk and then getting in an accident hurting or killing someone. Each State varies, but an incidence like that would make him (and you by proxy) liable. Teens being what they are tend to learn the hard way and maybe this is his wake-up call. Though we always wash our hands after applying mosquito spray, I highly doubt that could have been the cause unless they were spraying it straight into the pond. One again, people do stupid things when they're drunk and in crowds. My background is from the University of Michigan in Microbiology, Genetics, and Ecology. So I do know a thing or two about this :)

Our son's dog, Kate B. left us in her 12th year. She slept at my feet on the corner of the bed for so long that I automatically bent my right leg to make room for her even after she was gone. I told my DH that we had to find another friend. He said we could not replace her. I told him that was true but a new little friend would help to fill the void she had left (I boohoo'd for what seemed like weeks...my son could not believe I took it so hard). Six weeks later Tess came into our lives, all 1 3/4 lbs of her and she has been the best dog of our 42 year marriage. She loves us both, loves to talk to our grown son on the phone...hates his 4 huge cats! We just took in 2 black feral kittens we found under our house. I thought Tess was going to disown us. LOL She loves to tattle on what they are up to and with those two they are ALWAYS up to something (what was I thinking!). The good Lord shared a wonderful friend like Tweed and surely HE will send you another that will help you during the trying times you are dealing with. Oh sweetie, that was your mom alright, showing you she is still there in spirit with you and always will be. I am so sorry about your mom. Nothing I can say will make it better or bring her back. I wish I could perform that miracle for you. Know she will always be with you and in your heart. My mom's been gone just over 2 years and I still can't believe it. It is so far from being 'real' in my mind even still. She gave birth to me and was the closest spiritual person to me in my life. It just sucks. Please take care of yourself. Duane

I'm so sorry about Maggie. I know also how attached we can become to our pets. I'll never forget my favorite dog when I was growing up. When Teddy got killed, I cried and cried and cried like it was a person who had died. After I married, we had a few that we got very attached to also and then was so sad when they left us. After my daughter was killed, my husband and I decided to get two more dogs and we love them to death, and I know we will have to go through their loss too. I'm like you, though. I really don't think I want any more animals after these two are gone. Lu

I keep thinking...what if it was one of the bigger dogs.Could I have pulled him back in? I don't think I could have pulled Rock back,he weighs 60 lbs. Michie is only 8/10 lbs.He was almost gone,his head was even with the window frame when I got him. I didn't think I'd get him. Luck was on my side.I dreamt about it last night. Poor little guy,his eyes were big as saucers. I left him up front to sit on my lap the rest of the way. I feel so stupid but wanted to warn everyone about what could happen if you don't lock the windows.
OUCH! On shutting those windows on your arms and fingers! I want the old wind style windows back! LOL! They are safer for humans and animals alike, in my opinion.

That was scary! Good advice. My big dogs never did that, but they used to interfere with the shift lever more than they should have. My daughter Jill got a seat belt for her dog. Another good idea.

Wow CR, no I never thought about this. Mine don't ride in the car except to go the the vet. But they could certainly step on the button.

I've been having the same back problems for about 3 weeks now. I feel for you.

I was in your neck of the woods last week. Port Aransas, it has moved to the top of my list for places to retire to.
