I highly second the "get one of each and see how they both feel and look in person" suggestions. The ones I loved the look of felt horrible and didn't look right held up against the cabinets at all. One of the other ones I liked alot felt great and looked great with the cabinets. It is somewhat of a combination between your tapered and your square edge...but with a fuller "foot". Thanks for the insight Angie, Right now the fridge is next to the oven and I have never noticed the fridge door hitting the oven before. Of course I just now opened and closed it a bunch just to see. It does touch a bit. I have a french door where the right door has a flap that overlaps the left door which creates resistance if you were to open just the left side. I plan to do the recessed inset install on the oven which will give even more clearance. Now speaking of appliances bumping into appliances, I currently have a problem with not being able to open the dishwasher if the refrigerator is already open. A problem at every meal, but in the new setup the dishwasher will be over a few more inches so that won't happen. As far as food storage goes, will I miss not having a pantry even though I never had one? I have toyed with the idea of leaving the patio slider as is and building a tall 15" deep pantry on that short wall. One problem with that is that the patio door opens from the corner and is not reversible. Even if I dealt with that, I would still have to move the wine fridge and microwave. I like the idea of a self serve zone but am open to it being elsewhere of it makes more sense.

I know the writing is hard to read - sorry about that. The drawing is much bigger and I had to shrink it down a bit. For the most part, all of the writing on the new plan is just the cabinet number that she would need to order from Mouser (which is the brand she's quoting me...) You think that it would be best to put the sink where the fridge is now? And move the fridge to the longer wall? I'm not sure I'd really need a prep sink - never had one before. Maybe I'd love it though...? That angle is a double sided fireplace that is shared with the living room on the other side. Here are a couple of other pics that might help you to visualize what I have to work with... This table is gone and I am hoping to find a better way to use this space in particular. I rather like that the sink faces out of the back windows, as we have woods in the backyard and I enjoy standing at the sink watching the deer :) But, if we need to relocate, I'll learn to adjust! This is a view from the current entrance from our main hallway. The new plan proposes moving this door over a little to line it up with the entrance to our dining room. I could go either way on this idea as long as I can figure out a good solution for everything else.

Well, you do have a lot more restrictions than most people. I do understand if DH uses the garage for work, that changing that might not work but I do think there are other areas where you may want to consider function better. I don't recall if this was previously suggested or not. I realize there might be a laundry room there that would prevent receding the fridge into the laundry or garage space back there but I thought I'd throw it out anyway. I like that it actually gives you decent prep counter space between sink and range. I don't like that the DW will either need to be in the prep space or on the other side of the sink which is actually better placement if you don't mind that you can't open fridge and DW at the same time. Or simply move prep sink to island like this. Move island a bit closer to wall cabinets. Note that I think you should change the door swing. Yeah, I know, it will be a bit annoying when going out to the laundry garage but I think that is better than the door swinging into the fridge and work counter. Someone could come in and bonk someone getting something from the fridge or doing anything else at the end of the counter near the door if it swings the way you currently have it swinging.
