Comments (30)Love the picture of Rambo the Gardener! Full contact, armed to the teeth, head band holds back the hair and the sweat. Safety glasses steamed, pushed up, fall off, grime all over them. Shoe soles mucked....lace-ups are a pain. Beaucoup mosquitos so wear mostly light colored clothing. Skeeters prefer dark fabric. Spray clothing with repellent, tiny bug proboscis can penetrate fabrics. Ants don't care about color, they attack legs and bite every inch of the way. Wool socks are a big help, pants tucked into them. Gloves fingertips worn from "full contact"--pick up cement blocks, pots, bags of stuff, mix ingredients together. Sometimes walk right into sprinkler not turning off the water to move it. Feels good, like childhood days Drink huge glasses of crushed ice and water all day long. Gotta keep hydrated. Rub ice on temple and wrists. Remember it is good to work smarter not harder. Marvel how much hotter it is now than during childhood. Pray for rain. Heck, pray for STRENGTH! Remember to take a food break. Gardening euphoria even in harsh weather makes time fly, don't forget to eat something....See MoreMy cat has white crusty scabs only around his head and neck
Comments (7)There are also mites, some of them are a lot harder to control than others and it's not always the common 'ear mite'. My cat had what the vet called walking dandruff, and it was the area around her head and ears most affected. He finally hit on Revolution and it controlled it for her the rest of her life, but if I stopped it, it came back. He was a really good diagnostition, and did especially well with things like skin problems. It sure can compromise a pets quality of life....See MoreDog Ear Cleaner
Comments (17)Marcy, the medication we give her is called Allercept Therapy drops. She was so miserable that the vet suggested we test for allergies, so we did. The Lab that the Vet uses took the results and mixed a custom formula that fits her needs. From what I understand there are several of these specialty labs that do this. Her test responded to several common outdoor allergents and mites, including grain mites and yeast which are in most all of their dry food products. Once we started her on the medication (2 drops 2x a day), switched to a grain free/yeast free kibble and started freezing everything before feeding it to her, it didn’t take long at all for her to respond. No more infections, no more itching and chewing of her paws, no waxey build up in her ears, no infections of any kind. We’ve saved a bundle in vet visits too. The test is about 200.00 and her serum is 140ish every six months, and IMO, worth every penny. If your dog is suffering from similar issues, you may want to inquire about having her (or him) tested. ETA: Even if it’s not possible financially for someone to have their pet allergy tested, grain mites are a common allergy and they are rampant in their food. You may be able to help your pet by simply freezing it’s food (or treats) before you give it to them. If it’s chewing it’s paws, instead of trying to find a deterent like bitter apple, it’s a safe bet that it could easily be yeast related, so remove foods that have yeast from it’s diet. Even though there may be yeast contaminents outside that it’s allergic to, it could still help to relieve the itching and ear issues some....See MoreDog has double ear infection
Comments (32)Vet insurance is not a bad concept at all Lukki. It's really just like any other form of insurance....which means it's written so as to benefit the insurer and the fine print matters more than anything else. Insurance can be a necessary thing if the potential costs outstrip someone's ability to pay. I know several folks who love their pet insurance, so you are definitely not alone. There are those of us out there who will pay for cutting edge medical care for our pets. I know people who have flown vets in from other countries to do surgery on their dogs, as well as someone who took their dog to another country for a surgery not available in the US....See Moreannzgw
