Comments (16)Laurie, how big is your room? Our living room is long and narrow, 23 x 12 and the sliding door and window are at opposite ends of the room. We put a double rod up to test different drapes with and the thin rod & small sized finials, were so small they looked out of proportion in our room. The larger sized rod is 1 1/4 inch and the larger round finial is about the size of a baseball. They give more presence over all and look like they'll be more proportionate for our room. My DH is putting them up as we speak, so tomorrow I can post a photo for you. Btw, I also brought home that adjustable rod from BB&B, it was junk and we opted not to go that route. In regards to the extenders if I remember correctly your windows were smaller than ours which is 57 inches across. If you buy a rod meant for the size of your window you won't need to worry about extenders as everything you'll need should already be provided in box....See MoreWould love to see your living room drapes++
Comments (4)I think your concept of fringe and patterned fabric is perfectly fine. I love the two-tone drapery look, but have only seen it done in stationary panels. It would take precision at all steps in the process - making the drapes, hanging the rods, and hanging the drapes - to ensure that when the drapes were closed, the fringe met exactly. Might your husband find Silhouettes less "funerial" than sheers? (I remember that my first exposure to torchiere lamps was in a funeral home when I was a child, and for the longest time I would make that association when I would see them.)...See MoreDRAPERY + WONKY WINDOWS - Two Story Living Room, where to hang drapes?
Comments (7)yes, i agree. i'd do just a bit higher, so that the top of the rod would also be above the doorway on the left and the built in on the right. are those center hinged french doors? you'll need the drapes to be further off the sides of the doors then, so you can open them....See MoreLiving room drapery
Comments (4)A good rule of thumb is to multiply your window width by 1.3. This will give you a good size for your rod allowing for stackback. You want your curtains to cover at least some of the glass. As for height, I think I'd hang the rod about even (maybe slightly higher depending) with the ledge on the other wall. I'd wouldn't hang them too high since that's too much wall space that would show. I think I'd pick out a lighter color from the rug, to lighten up the room....See Moredonnawb
