My PDF files automatically arrange in alphabetical order. If you want them in order by month, rename them--for example, "1-January", "2-February", etc.

I'll be watching this thread in case there's another/better way to do it.

Whether you're looking at a file view window in a program or Windows Explorer, put your cursor over a column heading that says either Date Modified or Date Created, and give it one left click. That will give you date order either ascending or descending. Click again and the order changes to the other choice.

The same works with all column headings to put them in numerical or alphabetical order.

When I save files, I save today's file as 20140404 and the file name. Tomorrow I save as 20140405 and the file name. That provides another option for the process that snidely describes.

Snidely, mine was set for Date Modified. That would be today's date. So I unchecked it, hoping I'd be able to drag it.

I downloaded a Jan/2014 PDF of my phone bill, but it put it at the bottom of the folder, under March/2014. I can't drag it up to the correct spot.

There's no need to drag it anywhere, just click the column heading box to change the column order.

To change (add or remove) column types, move your cursor to the headings area and right click - a box will appear with column choices. Also, column widths can be adjusted by grabbing the edge line (left click) of the column at the header area and moving your mouse or laptop pointer left or right.

There's no need to use obtuse names for file names - that same data will always appear as the file's date metadata and can be used as desired by looking at the date column. Most people find it easier to use a name that describes what's in the file.

Oh, I was just messing around it some more and I found that when I clicked the little down arrow to arrange them in ascending or descending order, it places the recently dragged file in order.

So even though they start out at the bottom, they go in the right spot when it's "refreshed" by sorting in ascending/descending

It's a poor day ...

... in which one doesn't learn sumthin'.

And these days ... there's so much more to learn! (Or know where to find ... which becomes more difficult with age, and memory forgets what keys to use to show one what route to start out on).
