PDF Files

My husband was trying to download some pix from my Android phone to computer. He could not, don't know what the problem was, but somehow the phone got locked. My problem all my files on the computer were changed to PDF files and I cannot open them as it says not compatable (sp). I do not know how to change them back as I cannot open one file that says Adobe PDF. What are we doing wrong and how can we fix this. Thank you in advance. PK

I'm not sure I understand the situation or the questions.

There are a few ways to take photos off Android phones, but the one that is easiest and involves the shortest explanation is to just email them to yourself. If you're moving quite a few and have a limited data plan, wait until you have the phone on a wifi connection.

As for where I couldn't follow what was being asked, I question whether it's possible to change the suffix of a lot of files even if that were desired. Why not call tech support or visit a retail location of your mobile phone carrier?

If your phone uses a memory card that is a great way to get photos from phone to computer. Just make sure you have the phone set to save the photos onto the card then take the card out and insert into a memory card reader on the computer and up pop the photos.

Another way to send them to the computer from the phone is through texting if you have a texting plan. Most providers you can open a text and in the too field input your email address. attach the photo and send. You have to do this one by one but if you don't have a smart phone like my husband and only have a talk and text phone this works well. His new dumb phone didn't even come with a memory card slot, so stupid.

Myself with my smart phone I send files from phone to computer via Bluetooth. I bought a nice Bluetooth adapter for the computer that plugs into the USB port for $20. I have an otterbox case on my phone and to take it all off then take the phone back off to get to the memory card is too much a pain and I can just select 20 files at once walk away and they transfer via Bluetooth, love this. Really need more information. Which program are you using to open\read PDF files? In a lot of cases, just increasing or decreasing the zoom setting will help you see more of the document. The "little hand" is the PDF cursor within the document. I'm not sure what you mean by "the right column" unless you mean the scroll bar? Help us help you. If you know how to post a screen shot of an opened PDF file, that would be a huge help.

There is also a free download called CutePDF writer. Once you download/install it shows up just like a printer so you go to print your document, select this option, and it creates a PDF file and saves it to your hard drive. We use this at work and I also use it at home.

It sounds like two issues are going on there - getting photos off your phone, and files having their extensions changed.

For the latter, first you need to determine if the files were actually changed to pdfs or just the extensions changed (the dot and last three letters, as in .pdf, or .doc)

Try right clicking on one file, choosing "rename" and changing the extension to what is was originally - .doc or whatever. Don't worry about the warning - you can change extensions as many times as you like.

If it opens you're going to have to rename each file by renaming the extension.
Programs that can rename, like the one included with "FileMenuTools", can do that in batches but if you're not a bit experienced it might feel a bit challenging.

If it still doesn't open after changing the extension, something deeper has happened - the file itself may have been altered.

If that's the case, I would guess you might have some sort of virus and I would do a completely scan with an antivirus and/or anti malware program.
