My rooster was attacked by the neighbors dogs
Comments (5)Stooball, my rooster was also attacked by a neighbor dog last week. I know from the feather trail that the dog got him on my property. The neighbor was nice enough to come over and own up to it and let us know that he last saw the bird alive but didn't want to further traumatize him by chasing him around. That night Rocky (rooster) came back to roost. A little worse for the wear but not injured. He was very quiet and sullen for several days. He is now puffed up and proud, doting on his girls and crowing in the morning like nothing ever happened! Lori...See MoreAre my small dogs in danger of attacks from birds of prey?
Comments (6)If you have seen or heard of raptors in your new area, then I would heed the caution mentioned by previous posts and be careful. As a small animal veterinarian, I see the results of raptor attacks occasionally. The worst seem to occur at night, likely from Great Horned Owls. I say likely, because most owners do not see the attack, even though they may be nearby when it occurs. The owl swoops in, tries to take down the small dog, and then is either successful or not. The resulting talon injuries can be significant, but in a dog the size of yours, are usually not fatal. I have heard of fatal attacks of very tiny dogs by Bald Eagles, either from attack or from being carried off. We, too, see many serious attacks by coyotes and wolves, which sound like they would be less of a risk in your new neighborhood. Best advice is to stay with your pets when outside at night, and consider a good yard light to help discourage sneak attacks....See MoreSo, my dog likes biting off the other dog's whiskers . . .
Comments (7)Hi! I kinda had this question myself. I have a 12 pound Jack Russell/chihuahua (named Brian) who bites the whiskers off of my Golden/Rottweiler and my Pit Bull mix. This dog has won grand champion in obedience in 4H several times and is very submissive with us. But it is natural for dogs to establish their doggie alpha. Obviously Dog Brian, the 12 pounder, likes to be alpha. He never fights with other dogs, just likes to show his dominance with the whisker chewing and playful nipping. It always seemed to me like he is saying I really want to bite you, but I'll just chew on you instead. And it usually seems very playful. The other dogs just lie there and relax. Most dogs who get shown in confirmation have to have their whiskers shaved. So I have resorted to shaving the other dogs whiskers to keep them from getting pulled on. I cannot completely stop it because as you said you can't watch them 24/7. But Brian is very submissive with us and has never bitten anyone in his 8 years of being alive and in our family. So I'm not concerned about it, especially since the other dogs dont seem to mind. I was just curious if anyone else had this issue and what they thought....See MoreLoose Dog Attacked My Dog- Help With Advice
Comments (52)Remy continues to improve and is about 90% "himself". He went for a walk this morning, and I'd even say he was jaunty ;-) Another good sign is that he's barking at all things that pass by the front of our house. He's still on Rimadyl for a couple more days, and of course is finishing out his antibiotics. The wounds are healing nicely, with the largest one still weeping a bit, but that one was really gaping. Remy's getting lots of love and attention (and home cooked meals), and is able to sleep on the bed with us again. I think that has been really helpful for him to do his normal nocturnal snuggling. Thanks for all the well wishes! Stitches removed in a few days....See Morejomuir
