copy-cat honey baked ham anyone?

Looking to duplicate a Honey Baked Ham glaze on my Costco spiral baked ham.

I prefer a different, mustardy glaze, but many of my

24 Christmas guests seem to love the Honey Baked

variety. Try Google and you get everything from o.juice and brown sugar to, and this sounds authentic, rolling the ham in a mixture of pumpkin pie type spices and sugar, no liquids ( NO honey!), and blow torch the ham to get the glaze. Some, however, did say they added a small amt. of water for a paste on the ham, or more water for a glaze. Is there a definitive answer to duplicate the H.Baked Ham? I did a search here and was surprised not to find dozens of posts on this subject...and recent ones, considering the season. Hoping someone here knows the True Answer! :>)Thanks!

I took a half a ham....the shank half....and poured honey over the cut end, and let it absorb, and did it again....and again....every few hours for about 24 hours....then I just heated it in the oven at about 300 until it was about 140 internal temp....the ham was precooked and all I had to do was heat it.
It was wonderful....and people thought I had bought a genuine honey baked ham.

I imagine Leah is hoping to replicate that firm, cracklin', crunchy, spicy coating that tastes like candy to me!! I'd love to find a recipe too - hope you'll post it if you're successful.

You never mentioned gluten-intolerance in your original post, and my crystal ball is in the shop for repairs so I didn't realize the food challenge. Did you know that wheat and wheat-based ingredients have been shown to increase addiction to foods? That's why wheat and wheat products are added to things as unlikely as Twizzlers. Even more addictive are sugar and wheat together. Wonder if that has anything to do with the "addiction" to Twix Ice Cream Bars since they contain both. My favorite glaze for baked ham is the mustard brown sugar vinegar one....but maybe not with the bacon wrapped brown sugar little smokies? Here is is anyhow Depending on the size of the ham....can be doubled. cup or brownsugar, mixed with 1 1/2 tsps of Coleman's dry mustard and enough cider vinegar to make a paste....about 1 to 2 tablespoons full. Smear all over the ham....bake uncovered....baste with what drips off, every 20 minutes. Linda C

I saw a show on FoodTV last holiday season on Honey Baked Ham & it is a sugar/spices dry rub melted to create a glaze with blow torches. Each ham is individually torched. Unfortunately, I didn't pay attention to what they were putting in the rub mix. :( I'm not even sure there's actually honey in the glaze?!

Search the FoodTV website...you might be able to find an article with "clues". I'm pretty sure I saw the episode on "Unwrapped".

I watched a couple of the cooks from the Foodnetwork last week and I believe they are repeating the episodes. Fun to watch, but if you miss it, you can do a 'ham' search from the website.

A great one to watch is the Neely's.

The recipe I will be using for my spiral pre-cooked ham to honey bake it, is a mixture of the following: Orange juice, Kern's peach nectar, honey and brown sugar. If you like it with a kick, add chopped chipotle peppers.
