Speaking of 'The Wedding'

I have conflicted thoughts on the Royals, but have to admit I get caught up on all the wedding stuff. One thing I've really been wondering is, about Kate's wedding dress. She seems to be a classy gal and is older when getting married than Dianna was, so I expect her gown to be beautiful and classy. I always thought Dianna's gown was a monstrosity. It looked so wrinkled when she got out of the carriage, and all of those foo-foo ruffles around the neck. I did like the long train....I thought fitting for a Queen-to-be, but the rest, in my opinion was awful. I think mostly I;ll be tuning in (to reruns) just to see the dress, and maybe what her attendances are wearing.

I normally wake up between 5 and 6 am, so I do plan to watch the network coverage. Gee, even this week it's all about The Royal wedding. I'm not English but I admire the pomp and circumstance. I'm curious about Kate's gown. I barely remember Diana's, except for the long train.

I don't conflict over many things and this is certainly not one of them. From what I have read about her and the Prince I think the dress will be a completely different style, simple. I may have to eat my words. LOL They have plans for their life, their own living quarters out of the palace and no servants. I dearly hope this works out for them. The problems with the press killed Diana, maybe the press has learned something by that. And I think the queen has also learned something and I know D's sons have.

I love speaking in front of groups-- it is one of the few times I know people are listening to me (or at least pretending to!). It doesn't mean I don't get nervous, though, in anticipating the talk. One thing I find that helps is to continually reconnect to the audience-- when people feel like you are trying to apply what you say to their situation, it holds their interest. If you use notecards, keep what you write on to a minimum. You want to be sure they just trigger your memory, so that you don't get lost trying to read off of them. Most importantly, have fun. Really-- when people see you relaxed, THEY will relax as well. I also agree with the practice, practice, practice. My speeches are a million times better when I have practiced, if, for no other reason, that I know I have done all I can to prepare.

From what Reality Steve said on his blog (and he's never been wrong yet), the producers did more than just force Jason to end his relationship with Melissa during the After the Final Rose (AFR) show. The producers forced Jason to choose Melissa when he really wanted Molly (if he'd wanted Melissa, he would have had to choose Molly -- the point was that he had to propose to the one he DIDN'T want); then he had to break up with her on the show. The reasoning behind it was that the show had been kinda dull for quite some time -- none of the relationships after Trista and Ryan had worked out, and the show needed some real drama to keep viewers interested. It wasn't a shock to Melissa when Jason broke up with her on the AFR show -- he'd already broken up with her in real life, and he'd already been seeing Molly, even though he and Molly pretended they hadn't seen each other at all. The reason their wedding was televised (and the same reason applied to Trista and Ryan's wedding) was because that was one of the terms of the contract to be on the show. The contract states that if a marriage results within a specified period of time, then ABC holds all the rights to the wedding. Jason and Molly really didn't have much say in their wedding planning. Yes, Molly got to ultimately choose which particular gown she wore, but it was ABC that chose the designer. ABC chose the wedding planner, the cake baker, etc., etc. Jason and Molly's wedding was a one-show, two-hour event, unlike Trista and Ryan's. Primarily because viewers weren't as vested in their relationship as they were with Trista and Ryan's.

This is fun; thanks, everyone, for helping me celebrate. We have to make our own entertainment at times out here on the prairie! LOL ...HoustonMom...Are these the types of friends where you can simply invite yourself to the party? ...RedCurls...You're correct. Never wear white or ivory (or whatever color the bride is wearing) to a wedding, even in these days where the "rule" is "no rules." I like rules/guidelines. ...Kat WA...Yes, I'm wearing all the appropriate underpinnings; I just didn't want to advertise them to the world. LOL I found a lovely full-length slip with no lace of any kind on it to shadow through. It's peach, and more of dress liner than a slip. I could (if I were really buying all these items) simply hem it to be 3/4-inch shorter than the dress. No shadows at all. Seamed stocking are great, but I've never been able to keep the lines straight. (In my dreams I'm more of a fishnets kinda girl! LOL) I'm going with plain stockings. ...Sylvia...and DotMom...I'm in no danger of doing that, LOL. I just want to be appropriate for the occassion. ...Kacee...I'd love a hat, too, but I'm thinking with my full round face and short, full neck, and the fluffy wide neckline on the dress, a hat just might to "too" much. I love hats; when I was thinner I wore them a lot. ...Liz GA...You know you're going to have to bootleg all those copies. And after things settle down we can talk "Old Country Roses." By carefull searching, I've almost completed my set with all the older, still made-in-England pieces. I love, love, love this pattern.

I agree, Dot. Diana's dress was way too stuffy for her. It's the only thing she ever wore I didn't love. She never wore anything that hideous after that. I wonder who made her wear it, as it certainly wasn't her style.

On TV they keep talking about Diana's beautiful wedding gown. I guess you had to be there.

I saw it when she got out of the carriage, it was a mess and they admitted it was a mistake, I believe the word they used was disastrous.

Vala, we can be wrong together. I'm suspecting the dress will be simpler (that won't be hard) and maybe more sophisticated than fussy and frilly. She'll have one of the Queen's crowns I learned last night. Diana's dress was beautiful but somewhat overwhelming. It's hard to believe that she is gone now and her sons are grown, one is marrying. It's a heartbreaking story. I hope Kate can adapt to the lifestyle. She's very brave.

I hope it works but they had problems just dating, I don't see how it will ever work with more stress added to their lives. Thanks to Diana, things have changed enough that they can get a divorce. I wouldn't want to be in any of their shoes. I value my privacy. No one controls me, not drugs or people. I would butt heads with the queen right after the honeymoon if not before.

I'm sure I'll see bits and pieces. I do want to see the dress, LOL. I'm just hoping it isn't one of those hideous strapless numbers so popular now.

It almost doesn't matter what body type you have - strapless aren't the most flattering. Small women often have the tops too big and not filled out. That looks sad. Large women often have boob muffins and back bulges. That also looks sad, LOL. And while I am not a deeply religious person, strapless is not the first choice for a cathedral wedding. Maybe later for the evening reception - I've heard speculation that there is more than one gown.

Being married in Westminster Abbey, I expect the gown to have at least shoulders, and possibly sleeves. So I'm looking forward to a modern Grace Kelly sort of vibe. Simple and classy. One can dream, LOL.
