? about 'The Wedding' (William & Kate)

Why did William not turn around to watch Kate walking down the aisle? Harry did not turn around either, except for a quick glance...curious about that, too! Perhaps it's a custom there, but IMHO he missed out by not seeing her Processional!

Maybe its not the proper thing to do in a Royal Wedding.

I read it was the custom for the groom to be the last one to see the bride and that one could wait for up to 4 minutes before she walked the entire aisle.

graywings, it doesn't rub off after it's dry. As for "not after forty", well, doncha know the legs are the last thing to go :>) However, our legs may still look great, but not in the youthful, smooth skinned (inner-thighs, back of knees) way of a twenty-something. In a shortish skirt almost all 40+ look better in hose, imo. Also, to my eye, bare legs in a business skirt or dress just look a bit undressed, like a man in a suit, buttoned up white shirt and no tie, or a suited man in shoes without socks....though very urban-sexual, I know :>/ As for hose with open-toed heels: there are pantyhose that expose the toes and work great. I mostly miss hose in the winter when it's too warm ( So. Ca.) for leggings: Bare feet in shoes in winter are just not comfy, so I wear pants and socks. I hope hose come back as an excepted option.

No, actually, my ick comment was meant for William. I just don't think he's attractive at all, and, in fact, the opposite. It's his mouth, I think. Now Harry, I've always thought that he was an adorable munchkin and still think the same today. In my opinion, William is geeky looking and Harry is fun, cute looking. I think that some people (I'm not saying here!!!) think William is good looking because the popular opinion says he's good looking. Maybe the emperor has no clothes. I'm sure they're both wonderful men. Perhaps William is a better person, I don't know. I am referring to my reacion to their physical looks - that's all. Now, if we were to post a picture of me, we'd all have something to say! Hahaha. They do look like a happy, in love couple and I hope the love lasts. As far as Charles goes, and "having a mistress waiting in the wings", I actually feel sorry for him, in a way. He loved Camilla all along but was not permitted to marry her. It was forbidden for him to be with her. What a shame! I loved Diana, but I don't entirely blame Charles for the facade. I'm glad he and Camilla are together now. I wish Diana were alive and happy with someone.

I read that he didn't want to see her ahead of time at all, until she reached his side. It must have been killing him, not to look.

That Harry's a trip! He's just the cutest thing, and I bet his wedding will have some royal eyes rolling.

I figured it was a tradition, but I don't remember Prince Charles turn around.

I also enjoyed watching Harry. I loved when he looked back and then made a comment to William. As Kate reached the alter and William finally got to see her, Harry looked away and tried to let the two have their private moment in front of all of those people.

Thanks for asking this, I wondered the same thing when it was going on. And I loved the boyishness (is that even a word?) of Prince Harry! Now that is one royal wedding that I would believe happening like the You Tube videos! He seems to be a hoot!

Being with a Brit for more than thirty years, I know full well the cultures are NOT the same. Don't thrust your American customs on them!

The groom is the last to see the bride. Why? Because that's the way it is. Harry was quite naughty - I loved it!

That "don't thrust American customs on them" was in response to not only this thread, but to several other threads which seemed to bring into question William's motives in not looking at his bride.

It's not lack of love or anything else - it's simply the custom there. But many Americans made a huge deal about it. It's not a huge deal. It's a British custom.

I think this was brought up in another thread. Isn't white or ivory the customary colors for royal bridesmaids. I've seen several articles about Pippa and the 'nontraditional' color. Is that also American custom being applied?

Yes, adellabedella, it is.

Maids of Honor in GB are often dressed in white or off-white, and bridesmaids are usually small children. It's not just for the royals.

What's the big thing about Harry telling William "here she comes"? I don't understand the vilification. I think I'd like to know where I was at in the ordeal and by that simple statement he'd know he's a few minutes away. William wasn't supposed to turn around. So he's just expected to stand there with no idea when the wedding will progress? I didn't watch it, and purposely didn't. I think the hype is approaching disgusting. But to be fair, I think it was a kind and responsible thing for Harry to do and derogatory comments aren't appropriate IMO. And I'll say that Willy & Hank are 2 people I would like to meet. For being caught up in that kind of situation they seem to have pretty level heads. And the comment about this was supposed to be a small family affair was great.

I think most of us are just curious and trying to understand different customs and traditions. Questions are not always meant to be: "our ways is right and yours are not". They just meant to ask as a learning tool and not to criticise anyone or any country.

I watched the wedding live on CBS. Covering the wedding live with Katie Couric was David Starkey, a Royal Historian of UK. He filled in with all the traditions of the wedding as they were happening. CBS did great on this aspect because all the explanations were given then, before a question even came in mind.

Another plus from CBS coverage was having David Emanuel, Princess Diana wedding gown designer, in their team to cover on Kate's wedding gown. It was great to see and hear his excitement over Kate's wedding gown.

The rest of the team covering the wedding were great too, both from local and from the US. They were very knowledgeable about all the happenings during the wedding.

CBS coverage was very different from the other channels. I had 2 TVs on and were watching and swiching between several different channels. They were mostly covered by US teams. I liked CBS coverage the best and was glad that it was the one I chose to tape the wedding.
